Cutting spending is just rhetoric. What are you going to cut without going after entitlements or their precious earmarks that they pigged out on? All those years in power corrupted the GOP for whom 1994 became ancient history. I hope they don't forget what happened in 2006.

Maybe we are saying the same thing. They lost in 2006 because they forgot why they won in 1994.

In 1994. they supported the Balanced Budget Amendment.

Core Compassionate Conservative Belief: Conservatives believe that, whether or not we made the right decision in 2003 to invade Iraq, it is a done deal. Our only responsibility now is to fight wholeheartedly and to win.

Core Conservative Belief: There are differences among peoples

some can only be ruled by dictators

intervening in the internal affairs of other nations is a bad idea.

The issue of Iraq goes back to 1990 and its invasion of Kuwait. Either we make conditions that result in a cease-fire or we don’t. And, if the conditions are not met or abided by, we enforce those consequnces of of non-compliance or we do not. And if we do not, we’ll likely have a weak image problem that might cause idiots to think that hijacking and slamming airliners into our buildings will go unchallenged.

Since there was some question about the war plank, although I think it was certainly to the point on our present situation, I would add that:

Wars should only be fought if we are attacked, or to defend ourselves, or to preempt a dangerous threat that could be devastating if it isn’t headed off before it can hit us. Or, to put it more briefly, wars should only be fought in the national interest.

That would include Reagan’s war against Grenada, but it would eliminate Clinton’s war in Haiti. It would certainly not justify the war in Yugoslavia, where clinton fought on the wrong side, against our national interests.

It would justify the First Gulf War, and (IMHO) the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq, both necessary to the war against Islamic terrorists, who have been attacking our country for decades.

It would not have justified sending forces into Mogadishu, which we did only for bleeding heart liberal reasons. But it would also not have justified clinton’s failure to properly back the forces once they were there, and his cowardly retreat in the face of the enemy. In other words, we had no national interest in going there, but we certainly had no national interest in bugging out and showing the world that we were cowards—one of the reasons for 9/11.

The pro-life plank is basic. You can make an argument that the basic inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is in what amounts to a preamble to the constitution—the Declaration of Independence. Or you can argue that the right to life is in the constitution itself. But, the strict constructionist judges differ on that point. It CERTAINLY is true that THERE WAS NO CONSTITUIONAL RIGHT TO AN ABORTION in the constitution or its “penumbra.” Roe v. Wade was exceedingly bad practice, and should be reversed, because it encouraged SCOTUS to go powermad and pass a whole series of equally bogus decisions. In other words, it not only violated the most basic freedom of all—the right to life—but it was the worst instance of tyrannical judicial activism ever, and it has encouraged justices everywhere to do the same.

It must be reversed.

Conservatives over time in politics seem to have a problem standing by the tenants of the beliefs they once espoused.

It must be reversed.

Yes, and never allowed to be brought into the political arena again.

But, I guarantee you that Hllbilly as POTUS won't provide a justice to replace the ACLU's mouthpiece who would even consider the thought.

All of this boils down to one simple conservative concept--adherance to the Constitution of The United States, as it was written and intended to be followed by the signers.

“I find that America is fundamentally a Conservative nation. The preponderant judgment of the American people, especially of the young people, is that the radical, or Liberal, approach has not worked and is not working. They yearn for a return to Conservative principles.” – Barry Goldwater, The Conscience Of A Conservative, 1960.

“Conservatism, we are told, is out-of-date. The charge is preposterous and we ought boldly to say so. The laws of God, and of nature, have no dateline. The principles on which the Conservative political position is based have been established by a process that has nothing to do with the social, economic and political landscape that changes from decade to decade and from century to century. These principles are derived from the nature of man, and from the truths that God has revealed about His creation. Circumstances do change. So do the problems that are shaped by circumstances. But the principles that govern the solution of the problems do not. To suggest that the Conservative philosophy is out of date is akin to saying that the Golden Rule, or the Ten Commandments or Aristotle's Politics are out of date. The Conservative approach is nothing more or less than an attempt to apply the wisdom and experience and the revealed truths of the past to the problems of today.” – Barry Goldwater, The Conscience Of A Conservative, 1960.

Pro-capitalism and rights to property as necessary to a free society are two biggies the writer overlooked.
