WASHINGTON — George W. Bush, despite all his recent bravado about being an apostle of small government and budget-slashing, is the biggest spending president since Lyndon B. Johnson. In fact, he's arguably an even bigger spender than LBJ.

This is the problem with conservatives. They are social conservatives or fiscal conservatives. It’s difficult to find one who’s both.

The GOP calls them "kooks" and reguarly tries to exclude them from the party.

Does the War on Terror (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc) play a role in massive governmental spending??

What about the national disasters such as Katrina?

If all the extraordinary spending were factored out, could the same be said of him??

I don’t know, but am curious.
