Romney Surges in S.C., Florida

In vastly underreported election news, recent polls are showing a Romney surge in both South Carolina and Florida. Of course no one knows this because no one has mentioned it. We would all think that Romney was flopping around like a fish out of water in the Southern states according to some recent posts that have been written about each state. Of course, logic would tell us that Romney should not be doing well in either of these states: He is Mormon, Slick, and a NorEaster. Nevertheless, he is polling well and will likely be right in the thick of the races come January. Here are the recent polls:

South Carolina

Oct 02, Insider Advantage Poll: Thompson 21%, Romney and Giuliani 16%

Sep 26-29, ARG Poll: Romney 26%, Giuliani 23%, Thompson 10%

Sep 26-27, Rasmussen: Thompson 24%, Giuliani 20%, Romney 15%

Additionally, the Romney campaign performed an internal poll, here are the results:

So, in South Carolina Romney is right in the thick of the fight. It appears that the recent condemnation of Giuliani by Christian Right leaders is having a detrimental effect and that the advertising that Romney has been airing over the last month is causing some movement. However, it should be noted that the same article that reported the Romney internal poll caveats the results by saying that this was before the Bob Jones endorsement. A separat poll says that 27% of South Carolinans are more likely to support Romney due to this, but 32% are less likely. It will be interesting to see what effect the evangelical endorsements will have.

In Florida, Romney also continues to surge, and Florida is arguably more important a victory for any of the candidates. Here are the recent polls:

Oct 1-8, Quinnipiac: Giuliani: 27%, Thompson 19%, Romney 17%

Oct. 2, Insider Advantage: Giuliani 29%, Thompson 19%, Romney 16%

Granted, these polls are nothing to get thrilled over as Giuliani has a sizeable lead. However, all previous polling had Romney hovering between 7% and 10% in Florida. So a 6-7 point jump in a month is significant and he is really the only one gaining steam in these states, whereas Giuliani and Thompson are plateauing.

It should also be mentioned that all the hubub about Huckabee or Thompson surging against Romney in Iowa should be somewhat muted by the most recent Iowa poll that gave Romney an impressive 14 point lead:

Oct 10-14, Strategic Vision Poll: Romney-27, Giuliani-13, Huckabee-12, Thompson-10.

I wonder if this will get the coverage that the poll placing Huckabee within 6 points will get. I doubt it.

All in all, while Romney has stalled in some places, so have all the candidates. The race is a real crap shoot, there is far from a difinitive front runner. However, it still looks to be a Giuliani-Romney finale.

Now, is it just the job of POTUS you apply this to, or more than that. Would you ever vote for a Mormon for congress, the senate, governor, state legislature, mayor, or any other elected office?

How about hiring them if you owned a business, would you ever hire a Mormon to run a business for you, to do the bookkeeping, as managers, to sweep the floors?

I have and will vote for a Mormon for Mayor, Governor, Congress, Senate and Dog Catcher.

I own a business and employ several members of the LDS Church. BTW did you miss all my various posts about having a husband that is LDS? Just wondering.

See post #13. That was one of Colofornian's. It went way over the line. And it's not the first of his/her posts to be pulled either, nor will it be the last.

I've said essentially the same thing 2x before (with no pulling). So obviously, it didn't go "way over the line."

It was more like an ump's call on a borderline pitch as to relevancy (it wasn't a content issue problem).

A lot of times I skip over or only skim posts not addressed to me personally to save time. I also don’t go around building profiles and memorizing details of poster’s personal lives so if I forget your marriage, your gender or anything else of that nature you’ll just have to put up with the inconvenience.

I don’t quite understand why you don’t have a problem with voting for a Mormon for Governor, but do when it comes to the POTUS. Care to enlighten me on your thinking behind that?

My Mormon Governor, Congressman, Senator etc., represent the majority of voters in Utah. The voters voices have been heard.

If I chose not to vote for any Mormon, then I would effectively disenfranchise myself. Quite often the ONLY selection I have is between the lesser evil of two Mormons....and so I do indeed make a choice and pull the lever.

BTW I am an elected delegate from my district as well as an election judge. I wish I could choose to vote for a candidate who embodied Christian beliefs, but for me....I must settle for a Mormon. I don’t need to do so in the Presidential election. I have a lot of very fine men to choose from who are not tainted by personal delusions.

That would be a non-denominational Christian Church, Lifeline Community (most often.) Sometimes I attend the New Pilgrim Baptist Curch, the Assembly of God, the Draper Valley Presbyterian. I can close my eyes and except for the flavor of the music, the sermons are interchangeable.

Go ahead, make my day. Attack my Church....that’s certainly your right since you belong to the only “true” Church headed by Gordon B. Hinckley and founded by Joseph smith Jr. Yep....go ahead.

The kind of "bigotry" you practice is borrowed wholesale from the Jesse Jacksons, the Al Sharptons and all the other race-baiters that try to shut down anyone that disagrees with their (and yours) personal agenda by slinging the liberal slime around.

One wonders, since you are Canadian, if you think you can force application of whatever the Canadian version of "Free Speech" is on the American citizens you so readily slander daily.

I love the music at New Pilgrim. Rousing soul, jazz, old time country...just good ol’ Christian music.

At Lifeline Community and at Valley Assembly of God, there are awesome rock bands and soulful ballads. They rock your world.

At Draper Valley Presbyterian, there is a lone guitarist with a calm beautiful voice backed by harmonic vocals, and I’ve attended our local Community of Christ (they are building a brand new Church near my home). C of C doesnt’ have instruments - the melody and harmony of beautiful human voices blending from opposite sides of the aisle - Masculine and feminine blending in perfect pitch, FABULOUS!

We share testimonies all the time of the truthfulness of Christ, the way he saved us and changed our lives, thankfulness for what he does for us....never boasting about how much we puny humans can do for HIM (lol).

This was the testimony I bore in LDS “testimony” meeting. It is set aside for the first Sunday of every month.

I know this Church is true, that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God, that David O. McKay is a Prophet (give me a break it was the 1960’s). I love my mommy and daddy.....Oh yeah, and I love Jesus. Every child was encouraged to say the same rout “testimony” during the time that old women gave travelogues and shared “spiritual” happings. Most of the men slept or looked repeatedly at their watches.

Don’t believe me? I challenge anyone who does not agree with my recollection, to attend the nearest LDS Chapel on November 4th (Testimony Meeting) and get back to me. Make sure you check the times of the services. Here in Utah there are three per day/per building.

I think it’s sad that someone could be so filled with hostility towards a religion that in infects every other area of their life too. A few years ago my political party had a leadership race. One of the candidates for the job was a faithful, honest Mormon. I sang in a choir his wife conducted even. I didn’t think he was the best candidate for the job however so I voted for the man who is now our PM instead. I know Harper a Protestant but I can’t recall right now what denomination and frankly I don’t care because it doesn’t matter and had nothing to do with my vote.

As you mentioned before, I’m Canadian, so I don’t ‘need’ any body’s support, but if 19-40% of Americans filled with as much bigotry as I see in your posts (something I doubt is true BTW), you will have HRC as POTUS and deservedly so.
