Christian conservatives want more respect. They were instrumental in propelling George W. Bush to power—twice—and now they're feeling neglected. At a "Values Voters" summit in Washington last week, leading evangelicals gathered to speak out and take a straw poll. The survey showed how unhappy they are with the twice-divorced, pro-choice Republican front runner for the presidential nomination, Rudy Giuliani. He got less than two percent of the overall vote. (Some Christian activists have threatened to back a third-party candidate if Giuliani wins the GOP nomination.)
Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won the straw poll of 5,775 conservatives, which included voters who have been able to cast online ballots since August. But many evangelicals are uncomfortable with Romney's Mormon faith. That may have factored in the voting of people who actually attended the summit: Romney lost that tally by a wide margin to former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who is also an ordained Southern Baptist minister. To better understand the current thinking of Christian conservatives, NEWSWEEK's Jeffrey Bartholet and Eve Conant spoke to Richard Land, a leading evangelical who serves as president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. This theory is absolutely ridiculous. Do you really believe RATS are tougher on immigration issues than Republicans? Republicans are the only hope. RATS want all the illegals they can get so they can have the votes.
I didn’t say anything about God. I am a Christian. Religion is personal thing. It is not something imposed by others.
People of faith don’t vote for candidates that WANT to murder the unborn with TAX DOLLARS.
I wish the Christian Coalition would put up SENATORS that will have more impact in voting for a Supreme Court Justice in the next 4 years. Go run for the senate if you want to impact the abortion issue. If Hillary gets in, I guarantee that all the advances towards human life in the womb will be REVERSED! By voting 3rd party, they will be responsible for those lives lost!
And the only way to guarantee beyond the shadow of a doubt that Hillary WILL be elected, is to nominate Trudy.

Good grief Gunther it is very simple, there is nothing to “knock” over the plate, I’m not challenging you, or in competition with you, I thought I was a member of a conservative board with you!
And IMO, the “value voters” will not vote 3rd party, or stay home, and allow Hillary and Bill in the WH during war.
It is my opinion.
And I know very, very, well all of our candidates voting records, I have read all of their speeches past and present, I have seen most all of their town hall meetings on C-span videos and utube, and since I am a pol junkie, (as most here are), I love watching this stuff, and have seen RG, JM, FT, MR, DH, all of their positions are clear. And I have watched all of them for decades.
And I just don’t see RG as bloodthirsty, running on killing babies. He has always seemed more agnostic to me, not an ideologue (which I would prefer in a perfect world), he seems like other Republican men I know who don’t really care, don’t vote on abortion, ect.
It is a common position among men.
I really don’t think he is passionate about social issues, never has been, kind of goes along to get along. He campaigns for pro-life Repubs for years, and does not appear hostile or wanting to WORK AGAINST US.
And definitely not a leftwing activist for abortion.
IF, and big if, he is the nominee, tough decisions will have to be made by some.
Not me tho, no way will I participate in allowing the Clintons a 3rd and 4th term. And other value voters will not either. (She beats all our guys right now anyway, except for McCain.)
Dr. Dobson's threats, the gleeful assertions here on FR saying "look what we did in 2006", "you need us", "I'll stay at home", etc etc etc.
These people are from the Anti-Abortion Party, posing as Republicans and conservatives.
Yes, they have their boot on the neck now, and I'd prefer they leave no matter what the cost. We'll then decide what to do with our remaining 150 year old Republican Party.
That’s what i’m concerned about. He’s a pro-abortion gun grabber. He can rot in the same hole as rudy. Neither are republicans in my opinion. I’d take john mccain over either of those two. This next election is about supreme court appointees, the constitution, and the war. We are still teetering on the edge. Re-electing bush didn’t put us back in the safe zone. One bad president now will destroy us forever. That’s my view. And a bad republican will destroy us as surely as a democrat, just a little bit more slowly. If rudy wins it, I just might never vote again as long as I live...because all is lost forever. My country won’t be able to come back. I sincerely believe this. There’s alway a chance I might change my mind, but right now I just don’t think so.
But morality is. Either by law or convention we are prevented from doing many things that our individual religious convictions do not.
