I personally don't mind sex education at school once the child has reached an appropriate maturity level and the parents agree to the curriculum. Children need to know about the consequences of sex, including pregnancy, STDs, AIDS and the like. They also need to understand that abstinence is the only way to prevent such problems. Such education should never in any way, shape or form condone or encourage sexual activity, but children at some point do need to understand these things.
With that in mind, one cannot come to any other conclusion than that this program is completely irresponsible because birth control on its own does not prevent any of the other problems related to sex. I agree with your point about "what kind of adult..." but I am going to add my own conclusion. These adults are incompetent at best and perverts at worst for encouraging any sexual activity in children.
I think perverts.
Maine was one of the few states that refused to release data on child predators found in their school systems.
This on a recent AP study of child abuse in public schools.
