Umm, so the Supreme Court is NOT a part of the federal government? Do tell!
Yep! Good to see that people have their priorities straight!
I also don’t think that someone who has no problem with abortion can have the moral authority to send our troops into harm’s way
To see it like they do, I would have to be deaf, mute and blind.
The wasted vote would be third party during the primary - stop Rudy NOW!!!!!!!!
ah but that's where you are wrong, bc FR has MANY who would not support a third party and will hold their nose and carry a barfbag to the polls. FR is far from an echo chamber. there are other tiny fiefdoms in cyberspace that claim that title, while decrying the conservative boot upon their necks.
i have to laugh every time i see hildy on a thread here, because i know she hates herself for not being able to resist posting on FR. wait, maybe we can get some sort of fundraising going on this. Maybe freepers will PAY to see hildy post on FR, maybe we could get them to agree to send a certain amount in to Jimrob for every post that Hildy makes here. she is an advertisement for the irresistability of FR, the premier conservative website on the web!!
And that way hildy could help with the fundraiser. What a nice idea.
The place to stop Giuliani is at the primary level - now. It is not INEVITABLE that he will be the pick - only if we stay home will that happen. Supporting a third party NOW, would be throwing away a vote. I look forward to voting for a different candidate in the primary. That is all I can tell people to do at this point. And for my friends who registered “independent” - they threw away a chance to stop Rudy.
i totally agree with you. i am as against the ANYONE BUT CLINTON rationale as the THIRD PARTY OPTION, at this stage of the game. the objective should be nominating someone other than rudy.
No I am not missing the point, you are. You think there are 4 or 8 years to wait, and if your focus is pro life, there aren’t.
Look again at the ages of the justices I have posted. Many of the liberals have been holding on because they don’t want Bush to be the one to replace them... You have at least 2 conservatives that may not last 4 more years, and certainly the odds of them lasting 8 is beyond questionable.
If you think voting in a pro life candidate in 2016 will help your cause, you are not paying attention. By 2016 5-6 justices will be replaced, and 2012 is even a possibility. The elderly liberal judges will announce retirements within the first year of a Hitlery presidency for certain... all it takes is 1, just 1 elderly conservative or the 1 swing judge to die, become incompacitated or retire during the 4 years between 08 and 12 and the court is assured to be 5-4 pro abortion for the next 20-40 years.
You are cutting off your nose to spite your face, and not remotely aiding in the goal you claim to be wishing to accomplish.
By 12 the damage very well can be done, by 16 it certainly will be. You want a pro life candidate, support one in the primaries, but once the nominee is chosen, if your efforts were not enough to win the candidacy, you don’t pull the kind of nonsense that some of the so called “values” voters are claiming. All this is going to do is leave you out in the cold and ensure the values you claim to be fighting for wind up being further harmed.
Abortion sadly is not being dealt with by legislators or executors, but by the court, you let the court get tilted outside your favor then your DONE for a generation or two, its really no more complicated than that.
If the court is 6-3 or 5-4 by 2012 and certainly will be 6-3 against you by 2016 if Hitlery is in, no “true conservative” you elect will be able to do a damned thing.
Stop thinking small and start looking at the bigger picture, the big picture in terms of the abortion issue, is, quite simply the court, period. Congress could remove abortion from the perview of the court constitutionally, but it won’t, so the court is it. An R victory combined with the ages of the courts liberal members, will ensure the continued movement of the court to the right. An D victory will ensure the movement left of the court against the values of the country that’s been going on now for 20-30 years, will continue for another 20-30 years.
If you can’t see that, then there is little hope for you, or the values you claim to be fighting for.
I hope people are reading our posts - stop Rudy NOW. At the primary level. Nothing is inevitable.
People should not despair - vote against him in the primaries. Period.
No, its your shallow notion that defense of life means X and only X. The Court is where abortion is decided at the national level. Congress will not remove it from the perview of the court, even though it could constitutionally because it doesn’t have the will to do so. D or R controlling congress it won’t do it.
That leaves it in the courts domain.
Yes Senate must approve the nomination, but you suppositioning that the D’s will hold the senate, its 49 49 with 2 indies (yes both left aligned) but hardly is this some magical lock that means the Senate will remain in D’s hands for the next 4 to 8 years. Reid’s leadership is going to cost the Dems for certain in 08, as will Pelosi’s.. may not be huge swings, but it doesn’t take much.
If your goal is life as you claim, then going 3rd party or staying home if your man doesn’t get the nominee, just assures another 1.2-1.6 BILLION murders. If that’s how you show your committment to life, thank God you aren’t committed to death.
he is def not inevitable. he hasn’t felt any pressure because he has been the frontrunner. i know he has it in him to snap and throw a fit at some point, because he has done it in the past. he just needs to feel some heat and he will let his inner rudy out. : )
and do your best to acquaint others with his record and what he truly stands for. because people are NOT focusing now, other than hardcore political junkies like us. and they have NO CLUE about rudy [unless they live in or have a nexus to NYC] and what his views are.
In NY State (where I live) even Republicans who know better are caving to Rudy, but us grassroots people know better. Rudy was a good mayor in many ways but on the life issue he was ABYSMAL. We accept converts - but he has not “converted” completely. There are people with better pro life records who are running. The thing to do in the primary - especially in New York - is to vote for somebody else.
AND braindead.
“To understand these people you have to see it like they do. Nothing is more important than preservation of theirself."
"Me, and what is good for me and my prosperity, outweighs the need of others."
"Socially liberal people have no problem sending social conservative people into battle to preserve their own skin and ensure their prosperity. Very few of them volunteer for service to their country. Very few of them sit in sorrow when they hear about the deaths of Americas freedom fighters in battle."
"They are more concerned about their stock portfolios and inheritences from husbands."
"Innocent unborn are inconveniences and miltary men are necessary to preserve their well being."
"In their minds, both are expendable as long as life is good for themselves."
"Rooty is their hero, because they know he will grease their wheels financially, and have no problem sending the youngsters out of the people they so despise, social conservatives that is, to protect their wretched butts.”
A fair assessment to be sure. Good analysis!~ED
I will try again to make a point, this time I'll be less strident.
The abortion issue wont be solved by the courts anyways. It will be helped and evey life saved by the courts is worth it. However, let's say that the next President (Thompson?) gets a strict constructionist, through the democrat judical process and on the courts. Then they overturn R vs W. Then What?
It goes to the States. The vast majority of States will keep it legal.
Tens of millions will continue to be killed.
In light of threads like this where LIFE IS EVERYTHING, I would suggest that a new tactic needs to be employed to end this madness without relying on the courts, which may take another 100 years!
How many Christians are in this country? If a majority saw this as murder and were willing to stop it, it could be stopped. There are enough Christians(and Orthodox Jews) to engage in non-violent means to deal with the mills. Mass numbers of people could end it.
So, I would refocus efforts, within Christendom. If people see it as murder they will act right? If people see a murder occuring down the street, they call 911 right? If Christendom sees the slaughter of unborn by the millions, what then? Wait for another 50 to 100 years to stop it?
If abortion is really murder, then all of us should get serious about stopping it. IMHO.
