Paris Under Siege from Cross-Channel Invasion as England Rugby Fans Descend on French Capital
The Daily Mail ^ | October 19, 2007

Paris was the target of a cross-Channel invasion today ahead of tomorrow's rugby World Cup Final.

Thousands of England fans have already arrived in the French capital but tens of thousands more are expected to follow throughout today and tomorrow.

Fans defied national train strikes and a scarcity of match tickets, which were changing hands for more than £2,000.

At Gare du Nord today an army of supporters, some draped in England flags, filled the concourse with their cheers ringing out across the station.

They had risen before dawn to ensure they beat strike action by French public transport workers, which crippled the local rail network.

“What will be ironic - the muslim off France will behave themselves this weekend...they don’t want to get in a scrum with these English fans...”

I’d buy a ticket and drape myself in the British flag to see that.

‘Not true, Prime Minister Brown said he backed the English team all the way (once the Scottish team was out). So there is at least one Scot cheering for England. :)’

Hehe. Forgive my cynicism! :)

No need for them to go, they’ve already gone, didn’t even make the semi-finals! :D

‘I’d buy a ticket and drape myself in the British flag to see that.’

Tickets are currently changing hands for about $4000 each, and you’d better make that an England flag, not a British one if you want to survive the match! :D

Well, the French aren’t playing, they are the host country. South Africa (favorite of my Ace, who flies in Africa) is the other team.

Yeah, I know. But I thought if they heard the word "invasion", they would surrender anyway.

(Ooops! There I go again.)

The French beat the All Blacks and then the English beat the French. How the All Blacks got beaten is beyond me.

Actually FRance lost to England last weekend. England will be playing South Africa for the World Cup.

LOL, I remember when I took my nephew to his first rugby match. We have a local rugby team here in South Jersey. My nephew asked one of the players what position he played. When he told him he was a hooker, my nephew looked at him like he was insane.

I hope you hadn't been drinking when you explained that the Hooker engaged in a lot of "Rucking".

LOL, naa he caught on after a match or two.

My nephew and his classmates loved to watch the matches.

I rented a mini-van one afternoon and took 12 of his friends to the match against a visiting team from Wales.

The boys got to be regulars at the matches and acted a water boys for the team.

There's an outfit called Creekrugby.com that offers live streaming of the final and the runner-up match for $16.95.

Did you see the Frogs got walloped by the Argentinians 35-10.

No, I just checked out the update on SkyNews.

I will be cheering England, but they are going to have to play their hearts out to win this one. The last round against SA was really ugly, but they seemed to have gelled as a team since than.
