But Thompson said Thusday that it's not something he would support.

After he was reminded which position he was supposed to take. Sheesh, the mainstream Republicans consider Fred the 'savior' of the Republican Party? If I didn't know any better, I'd swear I was watching Spinal Tap does politics.

I imagine he changed his position once he was told ('remembered') the Everglades are in Florida...

I thought Fred was an intriguing prospect when the buzz first started. I couldn’t be more UNIMPRESSED by him. In fact, he sucks.

Get over it.

I didn’t know there was oil in the Everglades either.

I imagine he changed his position once he was told ('remembered') the Everglades are in Florida...

Except that he never changed positions. His response to the original question (which was intended to be just this sort of trap) was essentially "I didn't know there were oil reserves in the Everglades; we shouldn't take any option off the table".

This was then gleefully misreported as a plan to drill in the Everglades.

Nothing has changed, other than the fact that he pointed out that the original "spin" on his comments were wrong.

people, will you look at the source? it’s CBS! has anyone considered looking at the original context of thompson’s quote? The fact is, when Fred Thompson made his comment about not taking anything off the table, he didn’t know the specifics and was playing it smart (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297228,00.html). he was caught off guard by a question, he honestly admitted that he didn’t know the details, and responded by neither blindly supporting or attacking it until he knew more. it’s just common sense that if you don’t know the particulars of a subject, you don’t blindly endorse or condemn it. don’t just buy this crap that CBS is dishing out. they’re trying to make thompson look like a flip-flop politician by not giving the context of his quote, and you’re playing right into their hands. what we should be gleaning from this story is that thompson is a darn good politician.
