Web site names Jim Gilchrist, Lou Dobbs as 'voices of intolerance.'
WASHINGTON A coalition of human rights and labor groups have begun a campaign to counter what they call the "vile and vicious" rhetoric of the anti-illegal immigration movement and "recapture the civility of discussion and debate" on the issue of comprehensive immigration reform.
The campaign, called Campaign for a United America, launched Wednesday with the release of its Web site. As part of their work, the coalition will give tool kits to community groups that include sample letters to the editor and instructions on constructive meeting techniques.
"Today we begin this process which is going to be a long process of reclaiming a values-based dialogue, to put it in our nation's character, the one that respects the contributions of all our community members, including immigrants," said David Ostendorf, executive director of the Chicago-based Center for New Community, one of the groups that forms the coalition.
The campaign has declined to disclose its stance on comprehensive immigration reform, and Ostendorf says it is not the group's aim to push one side or the other. However, the group does list the founders and leaders of such anti-illegal immigration organizations as the Minuteman Project, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, and commentator Lou Dobbs as "Voices of Intolerance."
Rusty Kennedy, executive director of the Orange County Human Relations Commission, said any improvement on the current discussion of immigration, which he described as an "angry vilification of human beings," would benefit the country ...
The campaign's Web site includes sections on what the campaign considers people who have had either a positive or negative influence on the debate. The section with negative profiles includes Orange County's Jim Gilchrist, president of the Minuteman Project.

They’re not talking about calling patriots “nativists” “racists” etc are they?
How about some civility from the other side: a pledge not to call anyone ‘racist’ or ‘xenophobic’ or any other epithet suggesting irrational hatred of Latin Americans simply because the person wants everyone entering or remaining in the United States to do so in accordance with the laws of the United States would, if abided by, bring a great deal of civility to the discussion of the issue.
Sounds like another anti-American hate group
I wonder what they think of La Raza (The Race)? I think a group that promotes racial superiority and reconquista of US land would be “intolerant”
I am tire of pro-illegal/anti-American groups
Okay.....let’s forget about the jobs thing. That’s not the real issue, here.
Let’s focus on identity theft, drug smuggling, terrorist smuggling, increasing crime rates across the board, theft of services.....
And I’M SUPPOSED TO BE CIVIL???
YUP! That would be their “reclaiming a values-based dialogue.”
There; let's try to be accurate here. My ancestors were immigrants, legally entering the U.S. at Ellis Island, and becoming U.S. Citizens.
The idea that those who break into this country illegally, partake of benefits meant for U.S. Citizens (through the assistance of enablers), and steal the identities of American Citizens, plus deposit the babies OF FOREIGN NATIONALS on U.S. Soil to avail themselves of taxpayer-funded medical care (also meant for U.S. Citizens), is NOT what an immigrant is.
Tortured language of Leftist Loons can never change the FACTS.
You have Bush’s great amigo, Vicente Fox, going around the country on his book tour calling people who were against amnesty racists and xenophobes.
Minor nit: when you give them links like that it helps their search engine rankings. Just provide it in plain text: example.com
And, if you read the profiles on their site you’ll see some sleazy mischaracterizations. It’s also interesting that they won’t come out for “reform”, considering that I’m sure their parent organization has done so.
Typical leftist agitprop - to them anything other than complete agreement with their POV is ‘uncivil’.
You nailed it. They want the DREAM ACT passed. They want benefits meant for US citizens. Many expect to enter the USA illegally without opposition, and; the Minutemen must be hurting their plans.
Not one word on their site about we will assimilate and learn English. Not one word about we will push 1, speak English, and; we will provide our SSN. Not one word about entering the USA legally. About the only place I call these days other then privately owned businesses that do not offer a Spanish speaking option is the VAMC toll free number to refil meds and/or check my appointments. Why are these folks not flocking to serve our Armed Forces when they can get citizenship fairly easy if they can qualify and do serve?
I do not see them lined up at the Army or Marine recruiters looking to serve. Frankly, I see them looking for jobs that American teens and young adults would take like convenience stores and you name it.
I made the mistake of hiring one to paint. I am ashamed as I could have paid a little more to help an American, who needed the money/work.
And actually, when originally linking to their site, I was looking for the list of those belonging to this "coalition of human rights and labor groups." I tend to read that as a "coalition of subsidy factories and those they serve."
Thanks! :)
Yeah, that’s a good one.
ping
Thanks for the link. That website is pure Hegelian Dialectic. I couldn’t find the word illegal anywhere.
They are borrowing a page from the Jihadists.
They negotiate peace becase they are trying to reload.
THEY ARE TRYING TO SNEAK THE DREAM ACT PAST US BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!!!
(sen martinez publicly stated they might be able to pass it before thanksgiving)
THIS IS A DISTRACTION FOR AMNESTY!!!!
NO!
NO!
NO!
NO!
To the DREAM ACT AMNESTY!
The only apprpriate “debate” regarding illegal invaders would be paraphrased by Ronald Reagan as “We win, they loose.”
These traitors in our midst, these pandering liberals simply don;t get it and never will. We should ignore them and concentrate on the prostitutes in Washington and make it clear to them that their cushy careers as elected “professional” legislators are on the line when it comes to illegal invaders and pandering to them and those miscreants who support them.
