As violence falls in Iraq, cemetery workers feel the pinch

By Jay Price and Qasim Zein, McClatchy Newspapers Tue Oct 16, 2:40 PM ET

NAJAF, Iraq — At what's believed to be the world's largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn't good.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that's cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

Few people have a better sense of the death rate in Iraq……

Hate, Idiocy, and Treason, a very bad combination but that is the pathetic state of liberals and their media.

The great news here are the following:

Victory is very near and assured.

The liberal media has reached a new low that they cannot recover from.

Then in the 1990s, the daily average fell to 150 or less, Malik said. With the current war, the burials again reached 300 daily. . .

this spring, private cars and taxis with caskets lashed to their roofs arrived at a rate of 6,500 a month. Now it's 4,000 or less, he said.

Now class, who can tell me the remarkable fact that's been "buried" in this piece, so to speak. Anybody? . . . Very good, Bueller, it's the current number of burials in Najaf every month. Using my trusty calculator, that would be 4,000 burials/30 days = 133 burials per day.

Why is that a remarkable fact to suppress, class? . . . Right, because it suggests that Iraq today, during the media's "Iraq civil war," has 17 fewer Shiite deaths PER DAY in this region than the 150 who died daily during the good old days of Saddam's "orderly" Iraq during its least bloody period, the 1990s.

For those of you keeping score at home, that would be 17 x 30 = 510 fewer deaths every single month than during the days of Saddam's Iraq, when I'm sure the trains would have run on time, if there had been any trains. So I guess America's war has already made a lot of Iraqis a whole lot safer, eh?

Shhhh! It's a secret.

Yes Tom, an article like is the liberal admission that Victory is at hand and that they need go a new incredible low to come up with what they think in their delusional mind that it is bad news, where in reality we are laughing at them and their desperation.

It took me a bit to do your numbers, but you NAILED it! The death rate in Iraq now is much lower than during the “every day life” of the Saddam regime.

Thanks for running the numbers.

Does someone have a DU account? I would love for this article to be posted at DU with the comment: "Can you believe Bush is doing this to these hard working people!?"

The following comments would be hilarious!
