The local postition is “conviction”, not “pride”. I would submit to them and to you that “conviction” and “principle” can become a source of pride. In this case, Dobson seems to be saying to God, “I trust you and I give it all over to you, Lord... Unless you force me to choose between Rudy and Hillary. And if that happens, I’m not voting.”

I think you jumped off the rails on this one BigAlPro. You think God requires us to vote when we don’t like either candidate?

What I believe is that God has blessed us with democracy, where we not only have the right to vote, but the responsibility. Dr. Dobson has preached for years about voting your values and voting for candidates which best support family values. As Christians, we tend to put our trust in the Lord until he shows us something we don't agree with. Then we say, "No thanks". If we believe that God is in control and that all authority has been granted by him, then we must trust him in in the 2008 election, regardless of who the candidates are. If God has selected Rudy or Hillary to be the next president, then so be it. However, I pray that is not the case at all.

Imagine where Christianity would be today if too many people in the past took the Dobson approach to people in positions of leadership. What if the original disciples would have stayed home just because they didn't like the way James was running things or the message Paul was preaching.

Disagreeing with our leaders doesn't give us the right to stay home or lay down. We need to do the best we can with what God gives us. Anything less represents a lack of faith and a shortage of trust.
