Although I'm not 100% sold on the rapture, the arguments you discuss from the book of Revelation are the best in my book. Also, it is both chapters 2 and 3 which consist of the letters to the 7 churchs. At the end of each letter there is a blessing bestowed for those who perservere and certain language used, when compared to verses in 4-22, strongly suggests the chuch won't be around for the tribulation.
Also, the idea of the rapture isn't new and didn't start with Darby. In the early 4th Century, Church father Ephrem wrote his sermon "Sermon on the End of the World" were he stated all the Saints would be gathered together before the tribulation and taken to the Lord. Churh father Tertullian suggests in his commentaries on Revelation the Church will not suffer through the tribulation. In the 17th Century theologin Joseph Mede wrote of the rapture. The rapture isn't new - nothing is new.
"When I start to liking someone they don't seem to stay around long". "Yeah, well I notice when you take a disliking to someone, they don't stay around long either."
LOL. Josey Wales to Chief Dan George.
Now, that is a good one!!
Gotta give this one to you.
