Students withdraw as deportation fears reach Irving schools
Dallas Morning News ^ | October 3, 2007 | KATHERINE LEAL UNMUTH

Immigrant parents who fear deportation are "on the run" and are withdrawing their children from public schools, Irving ISD Superintendent Jack Singley said Wednesday.

Mr. Singley estimated that 90 children have withdrawn from school in the last week because of the deportation fears in Irving, where a police program has prompted warnings by the Mexican Consulate. The superintendent hopes their parents will re-enroll them somewhere else.

Also Online Mexico to bolster immigrant defense "My concern is that some of them won't put those children in school anywhere because they're on the run," he said. "They get this notion that someone is going to actually come to school and snatch their children."

More than 33,000 students attend Irving public schools. Administrators fear that many more than just the 90 children who withdrew from school are frightened for themselves and their families.

District guidance counselors will meet on Friday to discuss what kind of plan, if any, they should develop to reassure students that they are safe at school regardless of their family's immigration status.

"We've had kids nervous about their parents being deported," said Jose Villaseñor, Irving ISD's director of responsive counseling. "The younger kids are nervous."

And this is a problem because...??

I mean, I do have some sympathy for kids who were brought here by their parents, but any trouble these kids are having rests ENTIRELY in the hands of the parents who CHOSE to break the law.

"What burns me about all of this is that the illegal advocates keep trying to make this some sort of a race issue."

They do this because they know what an effective political tactic it is. This country is so hysterical about race (largely because media demagogues and race hustlers keep it that way) and people are inordinately afraid of being called racists.

You'll notice that there's very little attention paid to brazenly racist groups like La Raza.

I know in my heart that I'm not motivated by racism, and I'm past giving a damn who says I am in an effort to shut me up. The left will always resort to race if all else fails. They use "racist" just like the folks in Salem used "witch."

90 is a good start - as far as our tax dollars go the homeowners in Irving are the ones paying - not the apartment dwellers and renters that have way too many people living in them to support the schools adequately.

You are right. Three or four teachers will loose their jobs..plus a few social workers, parole officers and other state and county workers.
Illegals are the primary clients for much of the social welfare system in many cities, counties and states. They will fight to keep their clients and their jobs.
We, as taxpayers, need to fight harder to eliminate illegals and handlers.

Yes. Last summer, we were dragged to Mexico on a “vacation” by my soon-to-be ex-wife. There, we saw whole families begging at the intersections...during school hours. The parents were busy “educating” their kids in the family business, looking pathetic with a palm up.

Immigrant parents who fear deportation are "on the run"...

These parents aren't immigrants!

They're criminals who broke into our houses and are emptying our refrigerators, killing our neighbors when they get drunk and drive illegally, raping our women.

Take your damned kids and keep on running south in order that there be less to deport once we get a president with gumption who is not beholden to the NWO and Mexico.

The school district had a peak enrollment Sept. 25 of 33,189 students

"Peak enrollment" as of Sept. !!......that doesen't sound like parents are too worried to me.......these JAILED deportations have been going on since last year.

A little more interesting info to note......of the 33k students, 22K are 'latino', & 11K (PLUS) have "limited" English skills.

and the protesters are whining because 300 (ILLEGAL) criminals are leaving Irving, TX.....EVERY MONTH.

OUTFRIGGINGSTANDING!!!
I also noted that there was concern that there would be “racial profiling” involved in the illegal alien roundups. LOL. Ya think?

The good news keeps on coming from Irving Texas. These illegal leeches need to head back to Mexico or some liberal state that loves them

25,000 illegal immigrants have evacuated Tulsa, Oklahoma as it will no longer be a ‘sanctuary city’. I understand they will be cracking down on the illegals soon.

The problem is....I don’t think these evacuees are going back to Mexico!

“where a police program has prompted warnings by the Mexican Consulate.”

I’m surprised nobody picked up on this little snippet, that Mexican government officials are actively interfering and aiding and abetting illegal aliens - and I guarantee our state and Fed officials won’t do a damned thing about it.

Funny how the illegals can find their way to the consulate. I wonder what else they tell them there when there’s no gringos around?

1) Mexico is a cesspool of crime, communism, and corruption. It's easy to understand why folks want to leave.

The United States of America is a sovereign nation, not Latin America's flop house. I could care less about Mexico and these people. They have invaded and abused the USA. You should add the Central Americans too. And the Brazilians and Ecuadorians and Colombians who brazenly invade this great nation. All those countries suck and it's not my problem

I used to have compassion for these impoverished illegals but that was before 20-30 million of them invaded the USA and dropped millions of anchor babies to swamp the USA. I don't mind sending foreign aid to those countries but keep out the illegals

I won't even eat in a Mexican restaurant anymore. I find nothing about Mexico charming

Right now we are reaping the benefits of a generation who think the law is only an option...not something they actually must abide by.

Are you referring to the illegal aliens or congress? They both have that attitude.

You're not the only one that feels this way. I stopped eating at Mexican restaraunts too, and I won't patronize any of the fast food chains either, since they are some of the biggest employers of illegals. Shoot, in many parts of Northern VA, if you go to a fast food drive up (or even go inside), you not only feel like you're in a foreign country, but communication becomes the art of the impossible. The swamping, overloading, arrogant demands for freebies, the "protests" like spoiled brats when they don't get their way, the endless tax money that goes to support the "benefits" for these illegal invaders and their anchor kids........my compassion for these "poor" died some time ago. I'm just plain fed up and tired of it.

Sounds like Irving schools are saving over half a million dollars without having to do anything. Bravo!

The American taxpayer may not owe them an education, but they are required by law to provide one.
