Some people, like many you have listed, espoused atheism for purposes of convenience - in order to excuse their actions. This should be rightfully condemned. However, there are many others who espouse atheism for reasons of high conviction and intellectual honesty. I do find the stridence of some of these people to be quite annoying, in the same way I find the stridence of Creationists to be annoying. They claim to knowledge they cannot and do not possess.
