Jihad on the Agenda at Middle East Institute Conference
By Matt Korade, CQ Staff
The Islamic world of the not-too-distant future is a place where the greatest threat of Muslim extremism comes not from Arab and Muslim-born jihadists but from Iraqi youths themselves. Where desperately poor Muslim teenagers in Europe dream of waging war against the United States in Iraq. Where once-fringe Islamist groups such as al Qaeda mine the rich recruitment grounds of Western cities.
And it is a place that will be discussed in detail during the Middle East Institutes 61st annual conference, the Middle East in 2010, which will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Press Club.

Newly hired Cleveland imam Alzaree resigns before starting job
PARMA, Ohio (AP) - The recently named spiritual leader of Ohio’s largest mosque has resigned amid allegations of anti-Semitism.
Ahmed Alzaree, an Egyptian-born cleric, quit yesterday before working a single day. He was to begin work on Thursday.
Mosque leaders had hoped Alzaree’s selection would close a period of turmoil at the Islamic Center of Cleveland.
But bloggers last month posted part of a 2003 sermon Alzaree gave at the Islamic Center of Omaha in which Alzaree quoted the Prophet Mohammed saying one sign of the approach of Judgment Day is that “the Muslims will kill the Jews.” SNIP
