The thing is that slavery was here long before this country was here. This piece of land was not the USA until 1776 or 1789; Take your choice. And this country abolished it in less than 100 years. In the context of history, that’s a very short time.

And is often forgotten, Native American tribes often had Native American slaves. The Cherokee upgraded, and had black slaves, too, at the time of the trail of tears.

If anyone here thinks the North American Indian tribes did not enslave captives, they have another think coming.

Some tribes allowed some of their slaves to eventually 'marry in'.

Some tribes just cut their hearts out for the deity they worshipped, a practice very well documented in Central America.

Slavery existed here long before a negro or European saw the coast.

It was the white man who finally did away with the practice, despite disagreements among individuals.
