You are probably right, but how do you figure the right or fair amount to donate (200,000 people??).

Even if it is closer to 100,000 people Jim has to figure a number ($$).  His figure would be cheaper than the dollar a day club (of course it is 4:30 am, I may of done it wrong)

He could have it free for the first 6 months, after that if you want to join it would cost you $$.

The last FReepathon was 28 days!!  That is terrible, outrageous, and an embarrassment to Free Republic.  And it is no way to say thank you for this forum.  But Jim has to make the change...

I do not concern myself with the details on who should do what. I do the RIGHT thing and use this site with a clear conscience knowing I help tote the load.

I believe Jim has always shied away from a lot of high pressure tactics and trusted that if this site is needed, conservatives will be responsible enough to take care of business.

I would think that all who frequent these pages would donate freely, those who do not may not be able to afford an arbitrary charge. I am opposed to coercion in funding FR, it flies in the face of what we are (FREE) and puts us into the "Premium Member" class of B O'R type sites. Those who chose not to support the effort may lurk for a bit and then leave, only to return later after they have come to realize the value of FR.

That would do nothing to keep the "Troll" at bay. Frankly, I enjoy the freepathons, "Troll Zapping", and an occasional flame war. They are all part of the ambiance of FR. IMHO
