Sometimes I have this funny idea that these Muslims who raise objections in stories like this don't
really care that much about the "proscription against alcohol" or pigs or uncovered women or whatever it is they're demanding special treatment over.
They're just testing, and they laugh about it later when it succeeds.
Okay, that's probably not true. But in a way it would be funny if it were. :)

IMO, events like these allow radicals in the Islamic community to make inferences regarding how deeply the British believe in their own values.
When Islamic radicals see appeasement, special treatment and backpedaling every time a moderate Muslim asserts his or her identity, they might — rightly IMO — conclude that the British don’t believe in their own values enough to stand up for them.
