WASHINGTON – Some of the top leaders in Christian pro-family activism – including James Dobson of Focus on the Family – met in Salt Lake City yesterday to plot a strategy if Rudy Giuliani or another supporter of legalized abortion is nominated by the Republican Party as its presidential candidate.
Not only was there a consensus among activists to withhold support for the Republican nominee, there was even discussion about supporting the entry of a new candidate to challenge the frontrunners.
It's no secret that Dobson, founder of one of the largest Christian ministries in the country, has no use for Giuliani.
In June, he said: "I cannot, and will not, vote for Rudy Giuliani in 2008. It is an irrevocable decision. If given a Hobson's – Dobson's? – choice between him and Sens. Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, I will either cast my ballot for an also-ran – or if worse comes to worst – not vote in a presidential election for the first time in my adult life. My conscience and my moral convictions will allow me to do nothing else."
Dobson reportedly drove from his headquarters Colorado Springs to the private meeting, held between sessions of the Council for National Policy in Salt Lake City this weekend, just to weigh in with other leaders of family groups, including the Family Research Council, Bott Broadcasting, Capitol Resource Institute, Salem Communications, Eagle Forum and Concerned Women for America

Agreed. How many GOP Presidents have we had since abortion was imposed on us? Agree to the importance of judges but the fact is, Rudy, Fred, Mitt or some third party unknown will not deliver us from this atrocity. I will vote for someone to protect this country.

That is a ludicrous statement. Who can really judge who is a Christian? I know both Dems and Reps who live Christian lives and both who do not. My Christianity has taught me we do not live in a Theocracy now. We will later. Infantacide was rampant in the Old Testament. It is not something new that started in America. Firstborn sons were taken by God in Egypt as judgement. Children were thrown as sacrifices to the gods. Even Joseph and Mary had to run with Jesus.
I will vote for the best candidate I can, but certainly not expect they will run the country like a Theocracy. In this case, it will be anyone but Hillary.
That's understandable. The RNC may not control who gets the nod in the primaries, that's true. However, it would be foolish to think that Republican leadership has no influence on how closely its membership hews to the party line, precisely what the platform planks are, and which candidates get the blessing of the party vs. which do not.
Dobson sends this message now so that the party can be put on alert...going pro-abortion is not a viable way to win a national election. The base will flee in droves; depend on it. This political calculus has to figure into party strategy if Republicans are to win in 2008.
Just remember, when you vote for the lesser of two evils you still get evil.
Would you vote for Hillery if she changed parties?. I will not vote for an enemy no matter what party they claim to be in.

You’re aware, of course, that fully 1/3 of “evangelical Christians” voted for Bill Clinton .. so why not expect that they will hand the elction to Hillary? They’re just so principled.
Perhaps, but as a very conservative Christian, I can tell you most Christians I know could give a hoot what James Dobson or any other preacher thinks. In many cases, a Dobson/Robertson endorsement will drive off people.
Well, there are reasons why I, as a Biblically-based Christian of historic Christianity and of a 100% true Bible in every word given, would reject many of the things that Dobson says, especially in the psychological arena. However, having said that, he still represents the "mindset" of many other Christians, when he speaks to certain legislative and political matters and where it relates to Christianity.
So, while I may totally reject the psychological mumbo-jumbo from psychologically-minded Christians and/or spokesmen (which is in and of itself anti-Biblical and representative of Dobson), many of those spokesmen still are representative of many Christians on the other matters "of state" and "politics" as they impinge on Christianity and the morals represented.
And while I seriously doubt that many Christians will "follow" Dobson just because he "says so" -- many will "follow" (or rather, follow their own personal "mindset") which Dobson merely "reflects" publically, in his statements. Dobson, in this case, is merely representative of a lot of Christians in the stated issue.
Furthermore, there is really nothing Dobson or any other spokesman could do to either "drive me off" or "persuade me" on an issue. What can be said about them, is simply that they do reflect a large segment of Christianity on the matter. They are more of a "reflection" of the state of affairs for many Christians, rather than persuading them one way or another.

And yet, how did we get to this point.....where conservative thought is ignored.....our values ridiculed.
May God have mercy on us......we have no where to turn.
We will not compromise.
So, people, how about making up your mind. Is a candidate who will fight the war on terror AND shut down illegal immigration, but who is soft on abortion acceptable or not?
Either one would be a disqualification. It's not an "either/or"...

That repellent lightweight, Dobson, and his scam church can grow some sack, say who he wants nominated.
He is not a majority. Not even in the GOP. Sorry, but true.
Well, you don't know much about Dobson. He doesn't have a church and he's not a pastor. He's a psychologist. And in that particular arena, I'm in complete disagreement with him. However, when it comes to the political arena and where certain political interests intersect with those of a Christian mindset, then I find myself in agreement there.
So, he's not a pastor, he doesn't have a church, he's a psychologist -- and in none of those areas do I pay any attention to him at all. But, he does comment on political issues which are relevant to Christians and I find him very useful in that regard.
It sounds like you're way off base in understanding anything about Dobson at all...

... but you sure don't know James Dobson well....at all.
He's not what you paint him to be.....I wish you knew & could appreciate what this good man has done for our nation....
..but I sense you have a closed mind about him....both of you do...and it is rather pointless for me to go on.
Suffice to say you are very wrong in your assumptions!
What's the case for losing?
In many instances, it's a "case" that God makes for "judgement". That may very well be what happens...

Did you see where that guy carried over the border what could have been a suite case nuke and had NO problems! Why is it our government does not care about border security? Someone suggested we should boot the whole lot of them out of office and start over. WE need a bumper sticker that says JUST SAY NO TO ANYMORE BUSH CLINTON AND KENNEDYS! I think people may take notice of that message.
