MORE ASKING IF RUDY HAS RIGHT STUFF
The New York Post ^ | September 28, 2007 | Charles Hurt

With Fred Thompson nipping at his heels in national polls, Rudy Giuliani is starting to wear out his welcome among the Republican Party's core conservative base.

The latest popped thread came in a stern letter this week from Pat Toomey, president of the staunchly anti-tax group Club for Growth.

Toomey said his key conservative members were "surprised and concerned" about reports that Giuliani wouldn't flatly rule out raising taxes to salvage a Social Security program headed for bankruptcy.

If true, he added, it "casts doubt on your commitment to opposing all tax increases."

The Giuliani camp quickly hustled out its biggest supply-side supporter. In a letter, Steve Forbes told Toomey that Giuliani is "opposed to tax increases," even if he didn't make any specific pledge.

This dustup alone won't cost Giuliani the support of anti-taxers, but it certainly poured cold water on the group's highly enthusiastic appraisal of him earlier this year. And it comes amid other strains in the relationship between Rudy and the Right.

Last week, Giuliani rekindled long-dormant conservative worries when he answered a cellphone call from his wife in the middle of an important speech to the National Rifle Association, which is already highly suspicious of Giuliani's old gun-grabbing ways.

A Fox News poll out yesterday reveals just how damaging it was.

It shows 80 percent of voters, including 84 percent of Republicans, say Giuliani should have ignored the call. That's up there with the percentage of Americans opposed to terrorism.

And as rude as Rudy's phone manners may have been, he committed a far worse sin at the moment he answered the call.

As the phone rang, Giuliani was giving a stirring defense of the Second Amendment, which he tried to quote.

Rudy is a conservative cross-dresser. I can't even imagine how many liberals he would appoint in his administration. That's way too much BI-partisan support for me.

Just think of how much a liberal like Rudy could accomplish will all the BI-partisan support he would certainly have. No thanks, Rudy.

“I was talking to a financially secure gay businessman & democrat donor today here in Miami and he told me he detests Hillary and would be voting for Guiliani. He also said that half the people supporting Hillary are only doing so because of Bubba.”

Yep, Mrs. Bill Clinton does need Bubba.

I do hope we don’t end up with Rudy vs. Hillary, because if you run a liberal against a liberal, you end up with a liberal.

EXACTLY!!!!

As I say ad nauseum here,,,,,

liberal Republicans like Giuliani are much more dangerous than liberal democrats,,,,

because liberal Republicans BLUR THE DISTINCTION between conservatism and liberalism,,,,,

making LIBERALISM MUCH MORE ACCEPTABLE!!

No thanks, Rudy.

You’re correct, and many people think that being a Republican is synonymous with being a conservative.

As the phone rang, Giuliani was giving a stirring defense of the Second Amendment, which he tried to quote.

Only, instead of reciting the founding motto of the conservative gun group, he reached for the words of the Fourth Amendment protecting Americans from illegal searches.

Far from the NRA’s mantra, that would be the guiding principle of the group’s liberal arch-nemesis, the American Civil Liberties Union.

So was the phone call one of his staffers calling him to make sure he changed the subject since he was getting the second ammendment wrong? Not a good time to mistake on the second ammendment when you are talking to the NRA.

I wonder - what has Rudy promised Steve Forbes to be his lap dog?

Head over to Lucianne and search “Rudy”. You’ll get your answer.

That is a great point that needs to be made more often. Rarely in the history
of the GOP have the DemRats ever been Bipartisan while the Pubs held office.
It's like socialism, Bipartisanship fails every time it's tried with the Rats.

I’m glad Giuliani’s huge SNAFU is getting some coverage. What a freak and a fraud he is.

There have been some other posts on blogs and such about other strange wording in his NRA speech. It really makes you wonder exactly what he has in mind--but I don't trust him, one bit!

He did it as mayor--80% Dem judges, no less.
Using Arnold as an example of what Rudy might do, I'm with you--No thanks!

No question that Rudy would appoint many liberals in his administration--TOO MANY. The scary part, though, is that (in addition to the many democrats who would LOVE to show bi-partisan support for Rudy's liberal social agenda) even conservative Republicans would feel pressure to back Rudy for 'PARTY LOYALTY' reasons.

NOW THAT IS REALLY SCARY!!

Rudy and his liberal buddies must be kept as far as possible from the White House.

I just want to say this:
How you manage a $1 pretty much determines how you manage $1,000

so with that being said,
How you run a City pretty much determines how you’d run a Country.

I know you like Reagan...obviously by your name. I think Reagan was a staller ie he said we’re walking in a direction, but we should be walking that way.

Rudy just speeds that bad direction up. Hillary is one step ahead of Rudy...in the wrong direction!
