Rather chokes up, and hunkers down

Former "Evening News" Dan Rather choked back tears on several occasions today when discussing his decision to file a lawsuit against CBS and he left many audience members with a sense that he may call President George W. Bush as a witness should the lawsuit proceed to trial (and Rather said he hoped it would).

When asked by Carol Joynt, host of the "Q&A Café" held at Nathans restaurant who worked with Rather at CBS in the 1970s, whether "he'd like to" call President Bush as a witness in the trial, Rather said "I'd like not to answer the question," leaving both Joynt and audience members wondering whether the newsman has Bush in his sights." Joynt later told Yeas & Nays, "From the look in his eye -- and he gave me a definite Ratheresque look -- I got the impression he will call the president as a witness. Possibly both of them: 41 and 43. He implied the suit is not against them, but what the suit is about stems directly from his antagonistic relationship with them."

Rather insisted that his lawsuit is not born out of resentment: “I’m not angry, I’m not bitter — never have been. I’m a reporter … and this is a story.” He denounced the “interference, intimidation and manipulation in newsrooms” caused largely by the corporatization and consolidation of news outlets and said that, despite the largely negative response his lawsuit has received in the court of public opinion, “people might come around when they find out what really went on.”

CBS should have lost its license to broadcast over this.

“....leaving both Joynt and audience members wondering whether the newsman has Bush in his sights.” Joynt later told Yeas & Nays, “From the look in his eye — and he gave me a definite Ratheresque look — I got the impression he will call the president as a witness. Possibly both of them: 41 and 43”

Rather has been chasing bob woodward ever since he jumped on woodwards bandwagon when Watergate was beginning to smolder, by asking Nixon if he was running for or from something (can’t remember the exact words). But Rather never made it bigtime, was never bigtime, and ain’t gonna ever be bigtime; no matter how desperately he tries to step into woodwards shoes.....or kronkites, for that matter.

But I’m glad to see him so desperately trying, which means he’ll go out with a whimper and a laughing audience.

Dan Rather never did a single thing during his career with the intent of making America better; and never once hesitated to get facetime by trying tear it down.

GOOD RIDDANCE DAN, AND KNOW THAT I DON’T CARE WHETHER YOUR NEXT MOVE IS TO GO TO A PSYCHIATRIST OR THE UNDERTAKER.

This is the second time Rather has reversed himself in just a few days. First time was when he told Cavuto he hoped this thing would just get settled rather than go to trial. Now he says he hopes it goes to trial.

This man is not playing with a full deck and probably hasn't been for many years. What's hilarious is that his sympathetic cronies in the dinosaur media haven't noticed this.

Well, I'm with Dan at this point. I hope this goes to trial and I hope the trial goes on forever, with witness after witness and exhibit after exhibit. When it's all over and the dust has settled, Dan will be living in a cardboard box under a freeway overpass, hounded forever by his attorneys to whom he will still owe millions. And CBS will be synonymous the world over with "incompetent laughingstock."

We need a Photoshop contest of Dan Rather as a crazy homeless derelict. It would just seem to fit.

Yeah, I can’t help visualizing him “hunkering” and “choking.” Definitely not an appetizing sight, but a lot less gruesome than the prospect of Dan being endlessly cross-examined at trial. He’ll present a perfect blend of Captain Queeg and Saddam Hussein (Dan’s old buddy).

...the suit is about stems directly from his antagonistic relationship with them (GHWB & GWB).

Yeah, and he's the "antagonistic" SOB who brought this all on himself!

My final word of advise to Dan (crybaby) Rather: "Karma can be BITCH!"

Regards,
GtG

"Rather also grew emotional when he revealed that many of his family members and "people who love me very dearly" had urged him not to file the lawsuit."

Appropriate for the crazy uncle that ought to be locked up in the cellar. I wonder why they let him out.
