For those who remember the movie, The Lion in Winter, this was the family portrayed - Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard I, Geoffrey and John. What historical find.

AN ANCIENT royal palaceShouldn't something 900 years old in England be considered medieval, rather than ancient?

Henry II is also the king who battled with Thomas Becket and caused him to become "the holy blessed martyr" of Canterbury (cf. Geoffrey Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales"). There's also a movie called
Becket.
Henry II had more of France under his control than did the French king Louis VII (who had been married to Eleanor earlier).

Wasn’t there something about Henry II having an affair with Philip II of France?

The Royal Palace of Fremantle has lain hidden under the Hampshire Downs at Tidgrove Warren Farm, in the parish of Hannington, for nearly 900 years.
ok...what could have happened 900 years ago to bury this palace ?

Deliberately destroyed to prevent possible use by usurpers.
Just as now, things of possible military use are destroyed when abandoned.

Henry’s son Richard I may have molested Phillip II when Phillip was a child.
