Unexploded Rocket-Propelled Grenade Impales Army Private in Afghanistan By RUTH REISS

[snip]

One RPG skidded past Lt. Mariani's vehicle. All of the vehicles had to quickly get out of the "kill zone." But before they could get to safety, two rockets hit Pvt. Moss' Humvee.

Staff Sgt. Eric Wynn, 33, the soldier in the front passenger seat, felt one slice through his face. Moss remembers the truck practically lift up. He was thrown up against the Humvee and then moved to return fire.

"I smelled something smoking and I looked down ... and I was smoking," he said.

Wynn turned to tell Moss where to fire and saw the tail fins of the RPG sticking out of Moss' side.

Roughly the length of a baseball bat, an RPG travels at the speed of a bullet. At the front end is the warhead -- a large grenade. The detonator and fuel are contained in the shaft. On the back are its fins, pieces of metal that stick out like legs on a camera tripod. The RPG is the weapon of choice for many of the world's guerillas.

Luckily for Moss, the company medic Spc. Jared Angell, 23, who the soldiers call "Doc," was in his Humvee

[snip]

A Human Bomb The RPG that had plowed into Moss' lower abdomen stretched from one hip to the other. If the RPG went off, it would kill everyone within 30 feet of him. Yet Angell stayed close, bandaging his wounds and stabilizing the weapon so that movement wouldn't cause it to explode.

Moss was still fully conscious, so Angell ordered him to not look down at the injury. He didn't want Moss to panic.

Has he been watching too much ‘Heroes’?

Too much "Stargate." However, I don't think that's why he decided to be Invisible; he doesn't doesn't want people to see him.

I’d love to ask him why.

New tagline. I’ve been using recycled taglines for quite a while; no creativity!

I can ask, but he’s disappeared. He’d probably say, “I don’t have to tell you that,” or “How do you say that in Greek?”

I get bored with mine, so I change it often. I get mine out of variety puzzle books (answers) and Wisecrackofdawn (email) from fakecrap.com.

I get mine from news articles or the radio.

James is made because Tom won’t let him blow bubbles. I guess I need to get him a cup of bubble solution; he’ll spill it all over himself, but it’s only soap.

You are a great Mom, and you have a new tag line.

It’s only soap

I could have Bill spray him with the hose, but we have a watering ban on. Of course, they’re in the back yard, so maybe nobody would see them ...

Thanks! With boys, one has to learn to go with the flow (of muck, mud, filth, disaster, and devastation.) Having all the boys has made me easier on the girls, too. I probably wouldn’t have let Anoreth have magenta hair and a magic wand business if I hadn’t learned (the hard way) that most things can be handled with plenty of soap and a large glass of wine :-).

One of the church ladies approached me (timorously) on Sunday about Anoreth’s wearing jeans and a (religious message) t-shirt when serving as a minister of communion. I apologized, and said I’d insist on more appropriate clothes, but we were stuck with the hair. (Martyred sighs all around.)

I need to catch my husband in a relaxed mood - wine, cheese, John Wayne movie - and inspire him to set a better example in dressing for Mass. I don’t ever wear jeans or shorts, but he does, so the children think they can!

It’s purple. Right now, it’s faded purple, but with Halloween coming up, we’re planning on Fantastic Fuschia! I’ve got the dye in my bathroom cupboard.

But she doesn’t have a mohawk, right?

I went through that with my son, blue, purple, green, red, 2” tall, 6”, 10”.

He has grown it back 3 times, but he shaved it off again, because, in his words, “I just didn’t want it anymore”.

IMO, it’s better to let them do it, and grow out of it, than forbid it.
If they’ve had purple hair at 15, it gets old by the time they are 18.
Heh.
