SoCal investors sue Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu
The Associated Press ^ | 09/22/2007

A Laguna Beach investment firm filed a lawsuit against Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu on Friday, claiming he defrauded investors out of at least $23 million and required them to donate to Democratic candidates.

According to the lawsuit filed by Briar Wood Investments, Hsu persuaded the company's operator to do business with him by taking him to star-studded Democratic Party events. There, the 56-year-old Hong Kong native was praised by New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown and others, the lawsuit said.

As a condition of doing business with the fundraiser, Hsu directed investors to make contributions to certain Democratic candidates, the lawsuit said. The investors turned over tens of thousands of dollars, including $30,000 worth of checks to Clinton's campaign on a single day.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal troubles that continue to mount for Hsu.

Last week, New York investors filed a similar suit against Hsu. On Thursday, federal prosecutors unsealed a criminal complaint accusing Hsu of operating a national Ponzi scheme and reimbursing investors for donations made in their names. And on Friday, a San Mateo County judge ordered Hsu held without bail in a 1991 theft case.

According to the lawsuit, Waters invested with Hsu in part because "prominent persons, including Sen. Hillary Clinton, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, national Democratic political adviser James Carville, film director Steven Spielberg, actor (Tobey) Maguire, grocery store magnate/billionaire Ron Burkle and others introduced and/or endorsed Hsu as a friend, colleague and trusted associate."

If the hsu were on the other foot ---- if Hillary were being prosecuted for violations of campaign finance laws ---- you KNOW that Norman Hsu would also be charged as an accessory.

If he was using her, she was using him too, and it's arguable which one of them actually received and spent the larger amount of cash.

He was criminally raising money for her, and she was enabling his crimes. She was what made his dough-raking possible on the scale he had reached. Both should be charged, both received illegal monies and encouraged the activity.

That's not even counting what might turn up in deeper investigations.

Where's the headline?

So these investors believed Hillary & the other Dem’s when they praised Hsu as “trustworty”. Sounds like some quid pro quo going on here - however, any investor who is influenced by the endorsement of/association with Democrat politicians, deserves to lose every stinking cent they invest. Stupidity has consequences.

Good, another law suit.

This kind hearted liberal needs to sue everyone of these rotten rat sobs for fraud: According to the lawsuit, Waters invested with Hsu in part because "prominent persons, including Sen. Hillary Clinton, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, national Democratic political adviser James Carville, film director Steven Spielberg, actor (Tobey) Maguire, grocery store magnate/billionaire Ron Burkle and others introduced and/or endorsed Hsu as a friend, colleague and trusted associate."

Jerry Brown is our new attorney general, so Moonbeam was in bed with Hsu, the Clintoons, Burkle, Spielberg and Carville.

Maybe we should recall and bounce Brown out of office like we did Gray Davis. He has been trying to greenmale the gasoline refineries and auto makers since he took office.

The prosecutor, Deputy Attorney General Smetana, was willing to let Hsu go if he would post $1 million bail and pay $1 million in restitution to his previous victims. It seems like the AG's office was not really interested in prosecuting Hsu or making serve his time, they were just going through the motions.

Jerry Brown is the AG and now this Waters guy is saying Jerry Brown vouched for this guy? The guy was a fugitive - was Brown AG then?

I wonder how many other state politicians could be dependent on Hsu? Always dripping in money, I bet he was a popular guy. We may have tons of recall material here, even if Smetana tries to let it slide again...

Excellent question. I don’t know when the felon and his character witnesses were together for their fraud.

A lot of us wondered where Moonbeam got all the money he got for his AG race.
