Is it possible that the call was a heads up from a staffer that he had just stepped in it?
Some of us have discussed whether these "wifey calls" are in fact calls from campaign advisers. If we could assemble some footage of these calls he's supposedly gotten from his wife during other speeches, we could look for gestures or phrases to indicate he is signaling his staff to call him.

Watching the clip a couple of times, I notice that there isn't the slightest pause of surprise or annoyance that his 'phone rings. Watch people when their cell 'phones ring when they're busy doing something. There's always this kind of 'what the **** is this now?' pause.
He was pretty clearly expecting the call. Even if it really is his wife calling, it's gimmicky and phony. It is, in all likelihood, a campaign adviser issuing an emergency course correction.

OR...We could call him out for being the lying POS we all know he is and challenge him to produce phone records if it was his wife.
I’ll betcha that would make the little puke break out in a cold sweat!
