Dan Rather Sues CBS, Seeking To 'Restore His Reputation'
The Washington Post ^ | 9/20/07 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 09/20/2007 7:29:56 AM PDT by steve-b

In an extraordinary move that reflects the depth of his resentment toward his former network, Dan Rather sued CBS yesterday, charging that he was made a "scapegoat" for a discredited 2004 story about President Bush's National Guard record because CBS wanted to "pacify the White House."

CBS management "coerced" the veteran news anchor "into publicly apologizing and taking personal blame for alleged journalistic errors in the broadcast," says the $70 million suit, which also names Sumner Redstone, chief executive of the network's then-parent company, Viacom; CBS Chairman Les Moonves; and former CBS News president Andrew Heyward....

Gold, Rather's lawyer, maintained that "nobody's proved the documents were forgeries. The way we look at it, it's more than likely the documents are authentic."...

Bernard Goldberg, a former CBS correspondent and a sharp critic of Rather, said yesterday that the former anchor is a great reporter, "but the dark side is that he's unwilling or incapable of accepting responsibility. . . . This is the man who signed off his newscast with 'courage,' and now he's alleging 'they made me do it, they just put the words in front of me.' This is ridiculous on so many levels."...

Rather clearly intended to make a splash with the suit: He has agreed to appear tonight on "Larry King Live."

'More than likely' is not going to cut it, Mr. Gold. You were supposed to prove they were authentic, not opine about it. Sorry, but no cigar.

We shouldn't forget to mention Dan's complete suppression of John Fraude Kerry's non-release of his discharge.

Hey Dan, why was Kerry dishonorably discharged, then had that fixed by President Jimmy Carter? Can you prove that as untrue, Dan?

Memo To: Dan

Who do you think already has enough lawyers on board, and the deep pockets to pay them to whup your tail like a Tennessee banjo, and if necessary, stall until you are deader than a possum on the side of a country road?

Les Moonves

CBS Chairman

I thought Dan Rather's reputation was already in the toilet after his interview with the (Oh so honorable) Saddam Hussein.

Could it be that he's waited this long to make a fuss because he's hoping we'll all have forgotten about how stinky his reputation was before that?

Okay, we'll mention it:

This is WONDERFUL news.

It’s like watching a catfight between your ex-wife and your current mother-in-law. You don’t care who wins.

And we’ll get to hear from Ms. Mapes under oath, no doubt. What a smorgasbord of MSM perfidy will be exposed.

Actually this has the great possibility of a lose-lose scenario for Rather and CBS.

You forgot the most important element, and the ONLY ONE that couldn't have been readily duplicated (by a reasonably knowledgeable person) in the 60s and 70s ~ that was that "KERNING WAS ON" ~ the compositor who used Microsoft Word (or other comparable WP package) left kerning on!

The job was done by a union jerk in Portland Oregon at the request of a battery salesman in Nebraska whose girlfriend was a family court lawyer in Nashville, Tennessee.

All three of these people had been jumping up and down for a year before those documents appeared bragging on the internet (on the old Doonesbury website) that the Dems had evidence "W" had been AWOL and couldn't pass a medical exam he had been ordered in the Texas ANG.

Do you need names?

Dan has nightmares of FreeRepublic, little green footballs, Buckhead, and typewriter/computer font experts wearing pajamas. It’s more than a simple-minded liberal can stand.

Send the names to the CBS lawyers in this farce, and if you can post them here for posterity:

I guess any publicity, good or bad, feeds his nagging need to be relevant.

The CBS lawyers already have the names ~ all they had to do was just call Gary Trudeau ~ and I’m sure they had those names long before Dan Rather got the story in his hands.

Prove it, Fraudrather! And to the central point: you can't restore what you never had in the first place.

I guess Danni Rather’s daughter (Is she still working for the DNC in Texas now?) is tired of him dropping dirty socks and smelly underwear all over her house when her lovely moonbat whacko lefties friends are coming over to snort the latest from MoveOn.org and Koz Kidz......

John Kohn won’t return Uncle Danni’s phone calls and KINKOS won’t let him in the door -

But Uncle Danni is blasting over the airwaves right now in Cuba and Iran so all is not lost
