"Too bad Fred got into the race too late and lacks the fire in the belly to succeed...."
Just playing devils advocate here, and "fire in the belly" is a very vague and ambiguous term.
IF "fire in the belly" means he's not running around like that idiot Obama proposing a pile of new programs and blapheming every opponent he has on a daily basis..maybe we need some of that now.
Maybe Mr. & Mrs. America is damn tired of the legacy seekers out there, and just to slow down and get our country secure again, and back in shape.
Fred - if nothing else - has steadfast principles and is nobody's fool. He says what thinks and seems to stand buy it.
At this stage in America we don't need someone who is constantly "doing something" every day...we need some "UN-doing". We've got a zillion stupid laws and taxes on the books that need to be eradicated.
We need some more "speak softly and carry a big stick" on a domestic and foreign level.
Idiots like clinton slashed the military, destroyed missile silos and half of our air forces just to kiss the commies collective asses, and now we have now position of power from which to deal with third world dictators like Iran, etc.
Almost every argument I've heard again Thompson is from someone with Hunter, Rudy, etc in their tagline. Go figure.
You don't have to run around barking like a chiuhauha to make a good leader, sometimes run silent-run deep is the better tact.
I think he would handle the press better...sometimes the more you say, the more the press and the left have to demogogue you.
We don't need any more clintons [used car salesmen] in the White House, nor anymore legacy seekers and power merchants. What we need is someone who truly loves this country, and is looking out for generations to come.
If hillary gets in, you probably should get out the old swastika and sew it on your sleeve. Go ahead and tell your boss to start sending 75% of your pay to the feds (IF you have a job left), and buy one of those "Home Remedies" books, as going to the doctor will be akin to going to the DMV to get you tag renewed. The exam will take 5 minutes, but he government red tape could take days.

Maybe Mr. & Mrs. America is damn tired of the legacy seekers out there, and just to slow down and get our country secure again, and back in shape. You got that right. I remember back during the Clinton Administration, people would talk about the government doing this or that and spending Billions of Dollars to ensure Clinton's precious legacy as if that was a rational reason to do anything. Who really cares what people think of Bill Clinton in twenty or thirty years?
If a President wants to advocate some program to better the country, we can have a discussion. I think that nine times out of ten the proposals are wrong-headed and ultimately destructive, but that is a matter for policy debate. If the purpose of the program is just to make people feel better about a former President, how do you even argue with that? It is just so stupid, you realize that anybody advocating it has to be so far removed from reality that argument is futile.
We would do better selecting our President at random out of the phone book than we do by selecting from the group of people who want to be President so bad they will do anything to make it happen. These are the very last people you want in control of anything.
But given we are not going to start drawing names out of a hat anytime soon, you go for the guy who seems to have ambition balanced by humility, and who will not run over his mother to get into the White House. Fred Thompson is the pick of the litter, by that criteria.
