>>>>Thats ridiculous and you know better than that.

I know better than to drink Demon Rum, but I do.

>>>>You disagree with him but he is a very good man of great integrity who has done a lot of good for this country.

He is a B+ at best

>>>He is probably the most respected leader in the social conservative movement.

He is not even close to the top.

>>>> So, when you ridicule him you are ridiculing all of the rest of us and insulting us is not a good idea when you need our votes to win.

If that is the official attitude of the Christian Social Conservative Movement, then to Hell with you, and that is not meant as a curse, but rather MapQuest for the afterlife.

The problem with the so-called Christian Social Conservative Movement is that it takes the position that if a candidate does not agree with them 100%, then they will sit hone and not vote.

Since when can any movement that seeks to emulate Jesus claim to be perfect? That’s what you are doing. In a practical sense, you tell candidates “If you do not agree with us 100%, then there is no room for discussion. We are perfect. If you do no kow tow to us on every point and every issue, you are imperfect and should not be elected.”

If Jesus had followed that philosophy, there would have been no Disciples.

Stop and think about it. Following your philosophy, it;s better to elect a liberal Dem an a very Conservative Republican if that Republican was Jewish, or disagreed with you on just one point.

This is the movement that says Mother Theresa (No, not Ms. Heinz-Kerry; the one who worked in India) can never go to heaven because she was not born again. Trust me, if Mother Theresa isn’t in heaven, then the only way any of us are going to get above 100,000 feet is in the Space Shuttle!

I am a Christian, an ordained elder in my mainstream Protestant church, and I detest bigotry of any kind. When Mr. Dobson tells me not to vote for a candidate becaus ehe isn't pure "enough", then that is bigotry.... or perhaps he forgot who said "Let him among you who is without sin cast the first stone."

“The problem with the so-called Christian Social Conservative Movement is that it takes the position that if a candidate does not agree with them 100%, then they will sit home and not vote.”

Fact of life. Glad you understand how it works.

And they/we couldn’t care less about your criticism on the point either.

So if you want the support of the base, give us a candidate who shares and/or supports our values...you know, the same ones written down in print in the Republican National Convention platform.

If you don’t, knowing that we’ll sit home, then who’s really to blame?

Now, having written that only 5% facetiously, I’ll amend your observation by saying that we’re likely to accept somebody who’s with us 90% of the time.

Most pro-family activists I know, for example, were willing to let it slide that Fred may or may not have offered legal counsel of some pro-abort group over a decade ago.

No sliding on the Marriage Protection Amendment.

So you want us sitting home, or not? Up to you.

Wow - you really have a lot of assumptions about Christian Conservatives. Let me lay some of your misunderstandings to rest. First, of all we are not against Jews. I would have no problem whatsoever voting for a Jewish or Catholic candidate. I am a firm supporter of the state of Isreal and I actually wish that I had some Jewish heritage - I would consider it a great honor. What we do have is certain issues that we consider important enough not to compromise on. Two of the main such issues are life and the family. We are willing to compromise on most other issues though if given the chance we will support the most conservative candidate available. So, at the end of the day I don’t think we are that much different from except that we are concerned about certain issues more than you are. If you want us to support your candidate you are going to have to show us that he respects us and can be trusted to take a stand for life and the family - why does this make you so angry with us?

This is the movement that says Mother Theresa (No, not Ms. Heinz-Kerry; the one who worked in India) can never go to heaven because she was not born again.

Are you claiming Dobson said this? If not, who said this?

A quick google shows that the November 1989 issue of Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse magazine featured Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was on the cover and article was entitled “Teresa of Calcutta: Little Woman with a Big Heart.”" Similarly, the Dobson National Day of Prayer has heavy Catholic involvement. I am in a PCA Presbyterian Church, which is a conservative church generally compared to Presbyterian USA, and Mother Theresa comes up often (by that I mean in a sermon or more a year) as a positive example. You cannot be a Christian and not be born again; every Christian is a born again Christian:

John 3

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."

3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

9"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.

10"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? 11I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

So . . . you are a born again Christian. So is Mother Theresa. So am I. If you are a Christian you must be born again. Christ said so.

Bah . . . show me a minister with one suit and I'll show you a minister that really digs casual dress or I'll show you a minister that smells!

And regarding Lenny Bruce and where he is at regarding Christ: In 1951, he was arrested in Miami, Florida, for impersonating a priest. He was soliciting donations for a leper colony in British Guiana after he legally chartered the "Brother Mathias Foundation" (a name of his own invention- but possibly taken from the actual Brother Matthias who had befriended Babe Ruth at the orphanage that Ruth had been confined to as a child), and, unknown to the police, stole several priests' clergy shirts and a clerical collar while posing as a laundry man. He was found not guilty due to the legality of the New York state-chartered foundation, the actual existence of the Guiana leper colony, and the inability of the local clergy to expose him as an impostor. Later in his semifictional autobiography How to Talk Dirty and Influence People, he revealed that he had made approximately $8,000 in three weeks, sending $2,500 to the leper colony and keeping the rest.
