It is just way too early for Dobson to be sounding off like this....Dobson is so smart, this move is surprising, must be some hokie leak from the Rudy McRomney hacks....stay tune..Dobson will be clarifying tomorrow...

My maxim?

Know every candidate's major financial backers, and inner circle as well as closest campaign and policy advisors. This more than anything else will speak VOLUMES about where he is going to eventually end up on these issues in the White House, more so than ANY campaigning, soundbites and position papers right now which is nothing more than Madison Avenue selling soap in a box.

It is sad but I see a lot of good conservatives be seduced by the latter, stampeding into supporting some viewed as "saviors", but failing to do this key work of DUE DILIGENCE on the men who would be The President, much as we would do a background check, look at references, and not just go on how a candidate did in a job interview for a critical team position we in business would hire them for.

I would think we have had our fill of being tricked by RINOs running for President. We need a "real deal" as the nominee of the G.O.P. this time around. There is not much time left for our country.

"Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?"

Lesse... that's 1, 2, 3.. 4 lies in one sentence. Dobson is free to support anyone he wishes. Why he thinks this is important to the rest of us is a mystery.

Ok so he’s not supporting Fred. Well then who are you supporting Mr. Dobson? The Pope? Inquiring minds want to know.

Dobson and other Christian conservatives support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would bar gay marriage nationally. Thompson has said he would support a constitutional amendment that would prohibit states from imposing their gay marriage laws on other states, which falls well short of that.

Then Thompson is right. The US has existed for over two centuries without federalizing marriage law, and there is no need for such an amendment.

The Thompson backers will no doubt blow this off as a minor point, but it's not.

There are a lot of us who do not oppose Thompson, but have a hard time getting enthusiastic about him. That is going to be a problem. We are going to need enthusiasm, both from the candidate, and from the base.

I have supported Focus on tne Family for years, but if Dobson comes out in opposition to Fred I'm over it. Dobson should realize that neither party is going to nominate an evangelical Christian this time, and Fred is by far the closest to that of any GOP candidate.

Who is Dobson going to support, pro-abort Rudy, or flip-flopping Romney who has tried to cater to both sides of the abortion issue during his political career? One of those three is almost certain to be the GOP nominee, and even if Fred isn't wholly on board with the evangelical agenda he comes much closer than the other two.

Personally, I would much rather see Duncan Hunter in the White House than Fred, and since he is an evangelical Baptist I suppose Dobson would support him. But Hunter doesn't have a chance of being nominated, and even less chance of winning the general election if he somehow got the nomination. I would like very much to see Hunter as Fred's running mate, which would give him the national exposure and recognition that he needs to run for the top spot later on. But as of now I just don't believe that he has what it will take to defeat Hillary even if he could somehow win GOP nomination.

I have a lot of respect for Dr. Dobson and will listen to what he says but in the end, I make up my own mind. I think this is true of most evangelical Christians that I know. I decided a few weeks ago to vote for Thompson in the primaries.

This big issue here is does this signal some wavering of support for Thompson among the evangelical Christians. Thompson needs these people as part of the anti-Giuliani coalition. If Thompson doesn't stop Rudy, no one will and a Giuliani nomination is inevitable.

Fred Thompson needs to address social conservative issues. If he runs or hides from these issues he should not be supported be social conservatives.

Well, there go both of the people who base their votes on Dobson’s rantings.

This thread saddens me, more than angers me. NOT NECESSARILY IN THIS ORDER:

1. I can only imagine how fast a thread would be pulled had the Pope written an email that was then published and HE was put down this way.

2. How many of you on this thread putting him (Dr. D) down, have screamed about the feminization of America, when Dr. D. has written and spoken in favor, STRONG favor of, our little boys?

3. How many of you on this thread putting him down, agree that homosexuality, abortion, etc., are bad for society?

4. How DARE so many people put him down for merely expressing his opinion? It’s not like he went out & placed an ad, urging others to vote one way or another.

5. Which one moral issue that he speaks out against, can you honestly say you disagree with?

Sheesh.

I didn’t need Dobson to tell me that.
Although it may not be enough, the number one reason all conservatives and most sentient moderates will vote GOP in the general election will be fear of Hillary. For those people it won’t matter who wins the GOP primary. Avid conservatives, however, will only be excited about a conservative candidate, not any of the top four media babies. We’re not going to see Dobson, or anyone like him, cheering a GOP candidate they don’t trust. They might vote for one, and reluctantly announce “well, we might as well vote for Guiliani/Romney/McCain/Thompson now,” but they’re not going to be happy about it.

Anyone know who Dobson IS supporting in the primary? So far, all I’ve seen is articles about who he won’t support.

Does anyone actually base their vote on who James Dobson likes? If so- what a group of sheep, to actually say “I’ll vote for whoever Mr. Dobson tells me to vote for”.

re: "He has no passion, no zeal, and no apparent 'want to.')))

This pretty much sums up my own lack of enthuse for Fred--that, and his history of pandering to trial lawyers.

He's just plain enjoying his life too much to really want the presidency. Heck, I don't blame him, he really had it made.
