Gadzooks, I wonder... why they didn't censor the comments at the source site, for they are striking:

Comments

The brownshirts have arrived.

That's what you get at the Fascist Noise Network! And they wonder why the Democrats boycotted Fox. Probably because they don't have a chandalier in the race.

It is silly to censor the words god-damn. They didn't do this for quite sometime until bush took control of our government and destroyed much of America's Freedom and Prosperity.

GOD DAMN........same as saying MickeyMouse damn .

Words only cause offense in the minds of silly and insecure people.

Um, they censored Ray Romano, too. Anybody know what he said that got "chandeliered"?

Posted by: JohnM | September 16, 2007 at 09:34 PM

According to the FCC itself, "God Damn it" is not "profane". (http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2004/FCC-04-43A1.html) It's pretty clear why they censored her then. What an insult to this country that our right to freedom of speech is so blatantly violated before our very eyes. This needs to be talked about. It is NOT OKAY that a dissenting American citizen acting completely within her rights, was stifled -- just like that. Hitler would be proud.

'Jbone' thinks that we should just read a book...I took his advice, and now that I see how we've been lied to throughout history when it comes to war , I'm madder than ever! The point isn't that Field's views do or don't matter,or that anyone's life hangs on the words of Sally field-it's that I can watch a cartoon (on FOX) and see/hear more vulgarity. But let a real person say it, and it has to be cut out.

Actually, when someone says, "God-damned", they're saying that God is damning something. We'll never know if God would damn a war, but I'm pretty sure He/She doesn't like it very much.

I have a new found respect for Sally. Good on you...tell it like it is sister. I love you for it. As far as the censoring goes...get used to it folks...we're going to have to find a way around it. And we can.

"And a very special thank you to all the 'Security Moms' who voted to keep George W. Bush in office back in 2004, thereby certifying that thousands of US soldiers would meet their deaths, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians would also perish in the name of 'If we fight them there, we don't have to fight them here!'" Seriously, anyone still saying that is a complete coward. How is hiding behind the civilians of another country considered "courageous"?

its simple, stop watching fox. delete it from your tv. nothing is going to change until it hurts them in the pocket book. put your money where your mouths are people! please tell me what are you going to miss?

Posted by: letigre | September 16, 2007 at 09:10 PM

There was a long silence (accompanied by a lovely shot of the chandelier) for it to be only covering "god damned war in the first place." Was there anything else? Crowd reaction perhaps?

Their (thin) excuse for censoring her is that on American television you can say "god" and you can say "damn," but you can't say "god damn." Make no mistake about it, though, the people with their finger on the switch were waiting for an excuse to cut off an anti-war (and by extension anti-Bush) rant.

Please....is Hillary Clinton a mother? Did she vote to authorize the war and not even read the intelligence reports? You betcha! Anyway, what more can you expect from from the fascist/zionist, Rupert Murdoch...

Facism at its best.

Amazing. We supposedly went into Iraq because the people were oppressed and unable to speak out against their government. We were bringing them democracy and freedom. Apparently, we no longer have that in this country...so who will come here to "free" us? Just wondering.

And before I get attacked, let me once again remind my fellow countrymen that they needn't agree with me, they just need to know that standing up, speaking one's mind, including being able to disagree with our government, is the American Way.

What were you expecting from the Fox Noise network.

Posted by: Beowolf | September 16, 2007 at 08:54 PM

Sally Field should have stopped while she was ahead. The audience was with her up to the point when she said "...and mothers waiting for their children to come home from war." But while everyone was giving her warm applause, she yelled at them to shut up--she wasn't finished speaking. Then she forgot what she was going to say! What an idiot. No wonder they cut her off. This is worse than her Oscar speech years ago.

"God Damned" is what was censored. I think that the FCC doesn't allow what many would consider blasphemy. Free speech protect her right to express our opinion- but not necessarily the words we use. Had she just said "Damned", she probably wouldn't have been cut off.

and so on and so on and so on from some prime West Coast Manureheads...

Hearing the "g-d" word really bothers me. The film "Fantastic Four" used it once and it bothered me that a family film would inflict that profanity on an audience of children.
