LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 15 At his second campaign stop of the day on Friday, just after 2 p.m., Fred D. Thompson was deep into a riff on the benefits of high-quality American health care.
Its allowing us to live healthier lives and to live longer, Mr. Thompson said at a Jaycee park here. Thats good news. But we have more retired folks. I hope to become one of them one of these days.
Nervous laughter from the audience.
Not too soon, he added hastily.
So much for dispelling the idea that he is too lazy to run for president...
His critics, already pointing to what they call Mr. Thompsons skimpy Senate record, might find even more ammunition in his campaign schedule... Mr. Thompson has made a languid three-day swing through Florida ending Saturday. The pace has kept him on a jumbo air-conditioned bus far more often than he is actually campaigning.
Since Thursday morning, when the tour began, Mr. Thompson has made no more than three campaign stops a day, with long stretches in between. In recent spins through Iowa, he kept a similarly relaxed schedule. Mitt Romney, by comparison, often does six town-hall-style forums a day when in Iowa...
But once off the bus, Mr. Thompson has shown occasional signs of discomfort. In a speech here on Friday, he sweated profusely under the afternoon sun, breathed heavily and, while struggling over a question, asked no one in particular if his microphone was on. (It was.)
Some audience members winced as Mr. Thompson sweated through the question-and-answer session.
Im surprised they didnt pull him out of there, said John Chambers of nearby Punta Gorda, after the speech ended. Suzanne Miranda, who watched the event from a lawn chair, said, I felt bad for him...

The NY Slimes never demanded that Her Heinous release her medical records. She says she will not. What is she hiding?
Slick was never called on it either, never released his medical records.
It should be obligatory for all candidates to release their full medical records.
The American people need to know the condition of the person they are entrusting with their lives and the lives of their children.
If that were an accurate argument, I'd have been dead of lymphoma decades ago.
Unfortunately, for appearance sake, candidates don’t have the luxury of sweating in public.
Look how it destroyed Nixon, temporarily, at least.
Another brilliant post from the Dalton Gang.
I am sick of hearing that whoever criticizes Fred is "afraid." Grow up.
The man has cancer.
I do not think he, or anyone, would run if they thought they would die enroute to the finish line (which can be defined as either election day or 8 yrs 3 mos after election day). I can’t imagine that from anyone. It would make truly no sense at all. So I believe this is a rational thinking man and he is not concealing anything and believes he is healthy.
The problem is, and will continue to be, that everyone knows the man has cancer. It really doesn’t matter if he thinks he is well or not. It also doesn’t matter if tests are negative right now. The statistics for recurrence are what they are. Now, if there is something special about his variety of cancer that creates new statistics, then perhaps those need to be made clear.
But even beyond that . . . to win the Presidency he has to make his case to people who are not inclined to vote for him — that is, independents. They have to be persuaded. He will start out behind with them. They may only read enough to know he has cancer and not bother reading further.
This would seem a needless burden for the party’s nominee.
Doctors say their affliction is incurable but could be treated by a good ol country a$$ kicking.
I swear every time I hear this crap about his health I really wonder iof people actually take time to READ what the doctors report and what Fred hiumself said earlier in the year. "If it was going to be a problem I wouldn't be thinking of this."
>>>Mitts been a Bishop in the Mormon church. In other words, a cult leader. Forget him. He cant win.<<<
And being a “cult” leader is somehow better than being spiritually apathetic, unstirred, and uninvolved?
Riiiighhttt....
Another hit piece, 99% of what you post is anti Fred articles. You are but many in a long line of Romney supporters that have nothing better to do.
Here's a novel idea, post stories about your candidate.
Get a life.
I think Capone died from it.
“There are a lot of published stories out there saying Fred has lost weight recently, is sweating a lot and doesnt have energy. Thats 3 of the 4 signs up there, and theres no way for us to know one way or the other if he has a fever. Does that not concern you? It should.”
If Fred had active lymphoma, do you honestly believe he’d be running for president? That would make no sense, and would likely hasten his deterioration if it is an imminent threat to his life, as you seem to imply.
I’m confident he’s been told by doctors that it’s highly probable his condition will allow him to run for president, and serve if elected. He’d be near insane to run if he’d been told his health is at risk due to such activity, and he has two young children to think of also.
The NYT is going to cut no slack for any Republican. Nevertheless, I am underwhelmed by Fred Thompson. I’ll be surprised if he wins the nomination, and if he does, doubly surprised if he wins the election given how many closely contested swing states there are. I like his beliefs but not his political style. I like Rudi’s moxie but don’t like his liberalism on social issues. Either of them would make a better president than Mrs. Bill Clinton.
Happily, we have very free speech in the country generally and reasonably free speech here on FR.
Free speech does not imply any immunity from having stupid speech criticized. Nor does criticism of stupid free speech imply a wish to limit it. Enjoy your speech and your LOLing. It kinda makes me laugh, too.
I laugh when I hear Fred supporters talking about “cult leaders”, given the adulation for Fred on this site.
>>It’s the disingenuous quality of your posts.<<
Never a quality of Frednecks. Never. Ever. *rolls eyes*
He asks a question that is spot on the money. You recoil in horror when far worse have been asked about Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, and Tancredo.
