Newt said "possible Republican nominee". I thought he was stretching it to include Huckabee and McCain. To include Hunter (this time around) would have been silly.

Face it, a candidate who can't ever get his polling numbers above about 1%, has no chance of winning the nomination.

Gingrich underestimates Hillary’s negatives.

maybe if another Democrat get the nomination Gingrich could be right, but I think Hillary will be very beatable if the Republican nominee does not try and play too civilly.

I have to agree with Newt in at least one respect ....none of the Republican candidates so far have really energized the base. The party will need clear and decisive leadership and a candidate that has broad appeal like Reagan.

Hillary will energize the Rep base far more than any Rep candidate will. And her high negatives will also help the turnout among independents.

It’s not only his morality that concerns me...it’s his opportunism. He takes advantage of the situation, and uses the media to bash the Republicans or sensationalize a situation whenever he can. Why does he think he gets invited on shows and his opinion is sought...because they know he’s going to bash the policies of the Republicans and the MSM love it. He’s using them, they’re using him...it’s a symbiotic relationship.

I'll summarize the interview:

Newt: Look at meeee! I'm relevant! No, really!

To ALL here who poo-poo what Newt is saying, please keep in mind that HE and ONLY he predicted the GOP takeover in 1994...a takeover that HE engineered.

The lastest Rasumssen congressional poll shows the Dems with an 18 point advantage...that is HARD to over come. Rassumussen is a realiable poll.

I am NOT predicting NOW a Hillary win...only that Newt is a very insightful man and should not be simply ignored because what he says “may” happen causes all of us to have stokes at the very thought of it.

I agree.

Goodness, this angst towards Newt has really surprised me, and I will continue to assert, Newt is one of us - a conservative.

Take a minute and read FDR’s 2nd inaugural address - the origins of much of the mess we’re in today. How many current candidates are advocating the undoing of FDR’s unimagined power? Newt has said, real change requires real change. Will Mitt, Mike, John, Rudi or Fred advocate for real change? I haven’t heard it yet.

BTW, I’ve already contributed to Mitt and Fred so don’t accuse me of being childishly loyal to Newt. I’m a conservative who will side with the most conservative guys out there - happens to be Mitt and Fred right now. I just think most of you bashing Newt are dead wrong.

I’d vote for him in a second if he were our nominee - would you anti-Newt people?

No the blame can be placed squarely on psuedo “Betrayed Conservatives”, like yourself, who spend ALL your time actively working FOR the Democrat party by hysterically trash talking everyone and everything in the GOP day in and day out. How about you do us a favor? You spend all your time working FOR Democrats here on FR, why don’t you wander over and JOIN them? Pretty hard to win any battle when 20% of your team spends all it time sniping it OWN side in the back.

Firstly, MNJohnnie, your argument becomes specious and vacuous when you cannot tell the truth. I've NEVER in my life worked for a Democrat (my two sole connections working for a political party was when I worked as a county chairman in 2000 for McCain, and as a volunteer back in 1980 and '84 for Ronald Reagan).

Secondly, I have rarely voted for Democrats (I did not vote for Webb as you consistently accuse me of but, true, I did not vote for his "Macaca" GOP either). And I have NEVER in my life (since able to vote) cast a ballot for a Democratic president. The few times I did vote Democrat were for people I admire (former Sen. Sam Nunn was one when I resided in Ga.)

Thirdly, don't ever falsely accuse me of being a shill for the Democrats again or I shall have to flush the Johnnie to the mods!

To a degree Dawn, I agree with you. But let me ask, what politician isn’t opportunistic?

He’s simply stating that the current crop of candidates are not advocating the change that is really necessary for the future and I must admit they are a little less than inspiring.

To undo this mess, it’s going to take inspiring articulate leadership; who’s bringing that at this stage. I’m not a Rudi supporter, but he’s full of conviction when it comes to protecting our country - you might even say he’s a bit inspiring on that particular issue.

Where’s the visionary making a case about the need to fundamentally change Social Security, Medicare, especially Part D? How about fundamental tax reform and I don’t mean the “fair tax”, I’m talking about dramatically reducing the size of spending? Who’s making this case?

I don’t know, I’m at a loss about peoples disdain for Newt. He thinks the campaign season started to early and states it plainly and he’s an opportunist. He goes on Hannity and talks about message weakness and he’s a morale killer.

At a loss.

Spare us the hyper hysteric ignorant bluster. You spent all of 2006 trashing George Allen (American Conservative Union Rating 92%) to sing nonsensical praises of Jim Webb (Co Founder of the new US Senate Socialists Caucus).

Your actions have consequences. So instead of coming around here with the same arrogant ignorant hate the GOP bluster you spent all last year spewing,, learn from your grotesque failure of political judgment.

Get it through your head, Johnnie, Felix Allen was a flop as a U.VA qb., as man (because he was ashamed of his Jewish heritage), and as a senator (I should know, I asked for his help once), and as a closet racist...he was also a Bushbot who walked lockstep with the administration's previously failed war strategy (now working because of the surge and departure of Perle, Rummy and Wolfowitz). That were the REASONS he lost!

Your actions have consequences. So instead of coming around here with the same arrogant ignorant hate the GOP bluster you spent all last year spewing, learn from your grotesque failure of political judgment.

Hmmm-m-m-m, look in the mirror; Sounds a bit like the pot calling the kettle black... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well since you arrogantly insist on posting here as if you were some sort of great political strategist, I think people have a right to know your pathetic track record.

True enough...but Newt seems to take every opportunity to bash his own party rather than the other party.

Well, EXx-x-x-x-x-CUSE me! I didn't realize that JimRob died and made you the owner of this site in his will. I suppose you consider yourself to be the neocon police of this "forum"...sorry to inform you, pal, but not everyone here thinks the same way you do (thank God). If they did, the Alexa web site ratings would no doubt be down to one: YOU and "Macaca"! (Incidentally, check the profile...I've been here a lot longer than you have).

I disagree with Newt on this one. I agree it’s shaping up to be a Dem year, but what cuts the odds are the leading candidates. Hillary has baggage and high negatives and I don’t think the country will want the first African-American president to be such an inexperienced lightweight.

Well considering your track record of demonstrated political incompetence, one has to wonder why you keep kidding yourself that you have the slightest hint of a shred of credibility when posting here

This is the sort of thing Newt always does.

He doesn't really want higher office as much as he wants to be the guy nudging the reporters in the ribs and telling them what's "really" going on.

Predictions this far out are of limited usefulness but Newt did get his name in the papers, and that's what matters for him.

Once you realize where he's coming from Newt's not hard to ignore.
