Bill Belichick was hit with a $500,000 fine Thursday night -- the maximum allowable by NFL by-laws -- for violating the league's policy on videotaping the Jets defensive signs Sunday. In addition, Roger Goodell notified the Patriots that they would forfeit a 2008 first-round draft choice if they reach the playoffs, or second- and third-round picks if they do not qualify for the playoffs. The club was also fined $250,000.
I think he was talking about the Dolphins game
IF only he’d raised fighting dogs, and gotten in bed with gamblers and abused his wife or kids or animals... he would have gotten off with a stern warning.
NFL is freaking joke.
National Felon League.
Bernie didn't have video professionals recording and disseminating footage and syncing it back up.
This was a professional job.
That said, do you remember what happened when Norm Charlton thought Mike Scoia was stealing signs?
He broke his arm, his only regret was that he admitted why he broke the guys arm (he was suspended after saying he did it on purpose).
BB looks at game film like no other coach. He studies a team inside out and upside down. He got into coaching with the old Colts organization because he was able to look at film. George Allen was the guy who started the trend.
I don’t agree with what they did but I am not going to assume that all the Pats do is cheat with the talent they have had over the past 6-7 years.
Its not that its an unwritten rule, its no where near as effective, which is why a guy can stay in the stands and knock himself out, but he can't be on the sideline with a videocamera (and microphone, there is a way this system works).
The Pats D hammered the Rams all day. Remember Proehl’s fumble after the Pats’ DB smoked him? Their plan was to beat up Faulk and every skill guy the Rams had.
And Martz was quoted as wanting to do it his way when his players were telling him to run the ball. Arrogant ass!
Actually, they got Moss for a 4th round pick. The SF 1st was a flip for last year versus next year so SF could move up.
>>Anyway, its still baseball season.<<
Baseball season ended when training camps (or fall practice for colleges) started.
y'all take this too seriously....
Exactly.I m a Bills fan no love for the jets but they took out their Qb, He cheated.
In addition He sd be out for the year. If I was him I wd not be strutting arround either, The mob runs the gambling, an they might not be too happy knowing this guy stuck it up the old wazoo
Sure?
I think it was the Raiders vs the Pats.
It was the Pats vs Dolphins
Ya know, I had those memories buried pretty good...until you came along.
:)
I was stunned that there was no suspension. He supended an assistant coach five games plus a $100,000 fine for taking HGH to treat his diabetes. Compared to that, and considering that the Pats cheating actually affects the integrity of the game, this is a slap on the wrist.
The only part of this that hurts them at all is the draft picks.
I’m glad they’re doing something, but I sympathize with those who want tougher (a forfeit would be nice - any word on this?). This is truly ridiculous.
Does anyone know the extent of knowledge - just coaching/cameramen, or other staff, or players? I haven’t read much; sorry if it’s been stated.
I just finished a bio on Belichick....
Sorry ‘bout that.
FWIW, I think the whole thing was a set up, Mangini knew what Bill was going to do, and had tipped of the NFL, and they waited and busted Bill.
Also, can you cite the source where the Pats voted to allow the radio's in the helmet, I read something in Newsday that appears to contradict that.
Also, keep in mind, the person here doing the recording, was not official media, and was not acting in a media capacity, and WAS very close to the bench area. From every account I have read, he appears to have been in an area restricted.
Goodell ought to invoke a mercy rule and let the Browns cheat, although they’d probably screw that up , too.
WHAT? We luv Belly Chick!
