And with good cause.

Fred’s a likeable guy.

Hillary is also a guy but not a very likeable one.

Well, they should be scared.

It’s funny to see the left acting like the little queens that they are in a salon article - yeah.

Liberals should be very afraid. They had a chance at a keeping a little bit of power with Rudy. Fred won’t give them an inch.

.... Chris Enos, told me after Thompson spoke in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. "He's everybody's dad. He's everybody's grandpa. He just is a likable person."

When you get down to it, people get elected to office based on many reasons. Likability plays a critical factor in the final outcome. And people like Fred.

Fred said many of the same things in Nashua, New Hampshire, Sunday afternoon. He won over a few young folks who asked questions about healthcare and Social Security, not by responding with glib sound-bites or tax/spend recipes, but by taking the time to answer honestly.

If I recall correctly from my history classes, most media types considered Abraham Lincoln to be a tall, lanky, slow-witted dufus....

Fred Thompson is just like you

Gosh. I didn't know I was a highly-paid movie and television actor, a former U.S. Senator, and a decades-long Washington insider. Who knew?

dare i say this?

George Washington was reluctant to take power. but he knew his country needed him at a very important time. and when he was done, he relinquished his power and went back to the farm.

i know, i know. flame on!

I just sent him some more money. I appreciate him saying he can’t solve all out problem. WE THE PEOPLE are supposed to help solve our own problems. I hate this Hillary B.S. that no matter who you are she is going to make our lives better. How condescending she is.

This is the second article appearing on Free Republic in nearly as many minutes damning Fred Thompson as nothing more than an amiable but empty flannel shirt.

For the record I do not agree with this and I support Fred Thompson. However, we have all seen how the drive-by media fashions its template and, after a news cycle, that template becomes the received wisdom for the ages. Fred Thompson must act proactively to take the agenda away from the media and drive them with it. Otherwise he is doomed to be buffeted by them into mediocrity, to a point where he becomes beatable by Hillary which, after all, is the media's objective.

These two articles, the previous one by Andrew Sullivan, reveal how the media will go about this. More importantly, Republicans are operating at such disadvantage this cycle that we are in my view destined to lose this election unless we change the rules of the game and dominate the issues. We must take the agenda away from the media.

Amiability alone is insufficient. Ronald Reagan was a man of legendary likability but he had a full arsenal of issues at his command.
