Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
I bet the military would post guards at the memorial sites if we vets would donate the money for it. It would give security and honor to each memorial than.
Good Lord.
Someone needs to gently remind them:
“Take meds BEFORE you post...BEFORE...”
My heart quails at the thought of the poor Code Pink and Antiwar Elders being pummeled by the biker-garbed, jack-booted Eagles...
I have grown to HATE the peace sign and all it stands for...
I also found out I have developed an antipathy towards VW Busses...
I found out about this on Saturday when I called my contact in Rolling Thunder to ask a question about a totally unrealated matter.
Smitty was PO'd to say the least.
I saw our friend HK later that night at his place (ya'll know who I'm referring to), and asked him about it.
While he downplayed the damage a little, I could tell he was pretty PO'd as well.
Regardless of the limited damage, it's still a desecration of a National Memorial, and a slap in the face of a lot of my very good friends.
Someone has just signed their warrant.
We will find out who did this, eventually, and they will pay.
Not vinegar. Oil..
I emailed everyone as soon as I got back to my computer on Sunday, mware.
Brake fluid, it had to be brake fluid, most idiots know it can damage stuff.
Look at this pattern...I understand there are some who want to either give the primary suspects in this the benefit of the doubt (which they have shown repeatedly they RICHLY do not deserve to get) or want to keep us from shooting ourselves in the foot on FR. I can accept the second motivation, but not the first.
That said, this has the look of someone holding a squeeze bottle of liquid in front of them, close to their body, squeezing and spraying as they walk along. I have seen this pattern before.
Notice the breaks...releasing the squeeze, letting air back in, repeating.
School started up again last week so I was not able to follow the thread throughout the day.
Looks like there were some trolls here for awhile.
Any news on that poster at GOE who made the threat about spraying The Wall.
I thought people had to register before posting on that site. Hope they can get some information and check into him.
These scum bags make my blood boil. My Uncle is a disabled Vietnam veteran who is not doing well and is hospitalized right now almost cried when he heard about this. “My buddies names are on there” he said. They make me sick!
Boy, THAT really makes me angry. grrrr.
Looking at the video, the drops kind of remind me when I put water in a bottle--with a push squirt cap--it comes out as drops when I tip it upside down, but have to squeeze it to make a stream.
OK, I just took one of those bottles and walked along my kitchen counter. It came out in large drops and streams. This was water, though. I bet it would be smaller drops and trickles with a thicker substance such as oil.
See my post at 429...what do you think?
If intentional defacement was priority number 1, why didn’t they simply target the top sections of the wall and allow the fluid to drip down, or were there many people around so they had to keep cover? I do not know, only from what I see from these pictures as if the fluid was towards the bottom.
Thanks for the ping!
I think, especially with looking at the accompanying photo, that sounds like what happened. I can picture it in my mind so well. The squeezing action of the stream lines, the way they stop and start, and the droplets as they walked along with it along their side.
Makes perfect sense to me.
That is what I think.
The person who did it probably stood for a while watching, looking for an opening where there might not be many people around, especially late at night.
Then they had to get close as if they were reading...holding the squeeze bottle in one hand and randomly squirting.
This makes a lot more sense than a damned weed whacker.
My husband and I know some of the names on The Wall.
Whoever did this is despicable.
Thank you for the ping.
