High horse? Few people play the victim card more than the ‘obese and offended’.

It’s pretty simple for all involved, no matter what excuse they use:

If you find that you’re gaining weight by doing X, don’t do X. If you have trouble losing weight, get away from the keyboard or tv and take a walk.

I lost 10 lbs by doing nothing more than cutting out soft drinks and sweets. I’ve lost another 5 lbs just in a month by getting rid of cheese. Not a problem. I don’t get to eat everything I like, but I make decisions and I live with the consequences.

But hell, if you can blame genetics or something else, it makes life so much easier.

I had the “gene” that let me eat whatever I wanted and still stay thin.

Now that I am older, I guess that gene doesn’t work for me any more. I had to work really hard to lose the weight I wanted to lose. It was hard. But I did it. :) Extra weight is not for me!

I’ve tested my willpower to the limits for over a year now, by not missing even once, running 3.6 kms a day, on a 10-degree incline, in 30 minutes. I’ve lost weight plenty, so far; enough to need me to buy an entire new set of clothes, as the old ones were too big now.

To this day, I’ll compensate for the days I miss working out, by running double the distance, the next day. For the days missed when I’m on vacation, I double the distance for the number of days I wouldn’t be able to run, beforehand.

At the end of the day, it’s totally worth it!

But hell, if you can blame genetics or something else, it makes life so much easier.

There's a growing obesity epidemic, not just in the US but in the world as a whole, including nations in the Third World. Finding something to blame is irrelevant, as are anecdotes about how someone managed to knock off some pounds. Mankind did not evolve in an environment where we could consume the amount of food available to most of the world now, and it's clear that our bodies are not capable of handling it. It's also clear that all the moralizing and finger-pointing in the world will not fix it. What might fix it is early childhood education and conditioning about good eating habits and exercise, along with bans on the use of food ingredients found to be harmful, such as trans-fat and corn syrup.

Some people are tall, some people are short. Surely that’s not hard to understand, right?

Then why is it so hard to believe that some people are genetically disposed to be fatter than others?

So, basically, you're rejecting some pretty amazing scientific findings because you have an opinion.

Nice.

And there are few people more sanctimonious than those that feel they are superior because they have not struggled with their weight.

I don't get the judgmental attitude. We are arguing over how much someone weighs and that maybe there could be a medical reason why? We have people saying they want to kill millions of Americans and millions of children are killed through abortions and homosexuals believe they should get married. So somebody might be fat,I will not judge someone because I do not know if they have a medical problem or they don't eat right but I am not about to tell them to just shut their pie hole. All of us have issues,no one is perfect.

There was another topic like this one and you said the very same thing as now. As I have grown older and sick one thing I have learned was the mistakes I have made throughout my lifetime . Many times I took it upon myself to judge people in different situations only to find out I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. So now I try in difficult situations when I begin to make snap judgment about someone I keep positive thoughts about them and look to myself to see what needs to be done better. I have known people who were overweight for many different reasons and personally I didn't give a damn about it. There were reasons, health reasons. But most people didn't know that.
