BOISE, Idaho - Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening. "It's not such a foregone conclusion anymore, that the only thing he could do was resign," said Sidney Smith, Craig's spokesman in Idaho's capital.
"We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight - and stay in the Senate."
Craig, a Republican who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. But since then, he's hired a prominent lawyer to investigate the possibility of reversing his plea, his spokesman said.
Craig was a no-show Tuesday as Congress reconvened after a summer break and it wasn't clear whether he'll return at all since deciding to resign over his guilty plea in a sex sting this summer at the Minneapolis airport.
Another spokesman, Dan Whiting in Washington, said Tuesday that Craig was expected to spend the week in Idaho as the Senate votes on spending bills for veterans and other programs. Whiting did not rule out Craig's returning to Washington before the end of the month.
A telephone call Craig received last week from Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., urging him to consider fighting for his seat is affecting Craig's decision to reconsider his resignation, Smith said.

I was a little upset with dear Rush too. Even tried to call a few times. Craig has to go because of the (sorry in advance) piss poor behavior he exhibited AFTER he was caught doing all the things a boy does to solicit sex in a men’s room. EVERYONE should want a guy who acts that way (pleading guilty and insisting on making up these stupid lies) out of Congress. It doesn’t matter to which party he belongs.
Craig could have pled not guilty and taken the 5th on all of it. He could have said to the world that his private life should be private. Who could argue with that? Sure, he’d lose some voters and maybe his wife (unless she’s just a beard), but he’d have retained dignity.
We don’t want him out because he is GAY! We want him out because he leads a double life and is so in denial that he’d be a great risk for blackmail. Also, he’s a perv. We should want all pervs out of congress, gay or straight!
If he manages to stay in office and even get his charges
taken away (doubtful), etc., and runs for re-election,

There is precious little doubt that Craig had went to that bathroom to engage in annoymous homosexual sex, that particular bathroom contained an undercover officer for a reason.
And now it’s some sort of gay rights issue?
Yes the LaCross players never said they were guilty of rape of that bogus accuser.
However, despite their denials, they were immediately judged to be guilty of rape by most of America.
Of course we now know that they did nothing of the sort.
That too was a politically motivated prosecution. The politician was the DA Nifong who was running for office....and who took the “situation” as one which gave him an advantage with the predominantly African American Durham population. And he won.
Despite the facts, despite the truth, Nifong won his political office. It took a year to clear these young men and even now they are tainted in the minds of many as POSSIBLY being guilty of “something” that went on that night.
They were guilty of being stupid to have that dancer in the first place.

Good for the Senator in fighting to clear his good name and not give up his Senate seat for having the gall to go to the bathroom after his airline flight.
You hit the nail right on the head! Plain and simple this is a war for control of America that is being fought by words and deeds as opposed to bullets. In order to maximize the chance of victory for conservatives and traditionalists we need warriors in congress who are above reproach. The bunch of spineless, gutless, and morally challenged ass-clowns in congress who are currently trying to carry the ball for us are failing miserably. We lost control of Congress because people were constantly putting their own self interests ahead of that of the nation and the goals of smaller government, etc.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with holding elected officials to a higher standard. They are the leaders of this country for God’s sake. Every single one of them before they are elected should promise the electorate that they agree to be held to a higher standard. I find that it is really not all that hard to be a normal, hardworking moral person. Why is it so hard for these idiots in Congress to behave normally?!?!

You got that wrong. You still haven’t figured out that you don’t get the truth about anything from a media smear campaign. I usually say that he was assassinated. It was the fault of the public which got carried away into a ravening mob than it is to say Foley destroyed himself. I hope something like that does not happen to you, but you know that familiar warning about the Nazis. First they came for the Jews, but I was not Jewish etc. It we don’t carefully guard our rights, we won’t have any and one of the most important of all is due process, no matter what the charge.
What makes you think the fruits who solicit in the public toilets care.
In thousands of cases, the accused is advised to pay up, reason being is that the cost of defending yourself far exceeds the fine.
Another reason is, if you want justice, the last place to expect it is in court. Too many things go wrong with the greedy justice system, trial dates delayed, and the MSM making a killing on it all.
Could be Craig made the right decision in lowering the charge and getting it over with. But now push has come to shove, and he says he's innocent, they have to prove him guilty. That's the system, and I don't deny him his day in court.

My choice for tossing him is his blatant disregard of the civil rights expectations of other users of the public toilets. They are there for a couple of purposes ~ sexual activity ain't one of 'em!
Even if they someday catch a well-known quite public homosexual/exhibitionist in there soliciting for sex, he or she ought to be tossed as well.
These people need to learn to control themselves.

We low-keyed Idaho types expect more of or congress critters than trolling for sex in bathrooms...we expect them to get a motel.
