Sen. Craig Reconsiders Choice to Resign

BOISE, Idaho - Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening. "It's not such a foregone conclusion anymore, that the only thing he could do was resign," said Sidney Smith, Craig's spokesman in Idaho's capital.

"We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight - and stay in the Senate."

Craig, a Republican who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. But since then, he's hired a prominent lawyer to investigate the possibility of reversing his plea, his spokesman said.

Craig was a no-show Tuesday as Congress reconvened after a summer break and it wasn't clear whether he'll return at all since deciding to resign over his guilty plea in a sex sting this summer at the Minneapolis airport.

Another spokesman, Dan Whiting in Washington, said Tuesday that Craig was expected to spend the week in Idaho as the Senate votes on spending bills for veterans and other programs. Whiting did not rule out Craig's returning to Washington before the end of the month.

A telephone call Craig received last week from Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., urging him to consider fighting for his seat is affecting Craig's decision to reconsider his resignation, Smith said.

Sure, I read it. And, I have read that all before. Has it not occured to you to ask how it is that we were suddenly presented with a police report and then an anonymous recording one right after another. This whole thing was produced to have a maximum effect on Repulicans. A prosecutor might present his case like that, though I am sure that recording would never be admitted in court.

Many are just sleepwalking and accepting this one sided prosecution from the media and dutifully expressing outrage just like propagandists say you will. However, if you were not on autopilot, you would say a man is innocent until proved guilty, and you would realize that the defense is missing in action. Our constitution establishes courts to handle things like this. The media, however, has its own court of public opinion. In this case it has served to offer up double jeopardy with much stiffer sanctions than the judge meted out.

His state elects Republican senators because they want the party's policies

Exactly, and he gave it to them for 27 years, means he got voted in 27/6 times!!!!! I don't think they're ready to throw him overboard just yet. When the hoppla subsides, we can judicate the matter.

Be my guest. I don’t believe that has happened, though.

What the hell ails this guy. First he's guilty, then he's not. First he resigns, now he doesn't. He is as bad as Algore "unconceding" in 2000 and Kerry flipflopping his way through 2004.

She's right. He didn't hit on your son, or another teen. He's accused of hitting on an adult male.

This guy is 62 years old but looks about 80. Not much of a poster-child for his lifestyle.

He did not plead guilty to being a pervert. Did he? So you and your vigillante mob have obviously been trying a different case by media.

I wonder if Craig is going to argue that his arrest violates teh Constitutional prohibition on arresting a member of Congress while travelling to or from his official duties.

You are a terrific freeper, and I have enjoyed many of your posts over the years. I again suggest that you carefully read post #65 with an open mind, and then see if you can sincerely come back and proclaim that Craig is the innocent victim of a misunderstanding.

Regards,
LH

Yeah, that’s it - - Craig should claim that he was “on his way to vote”.

Craig must be out of his mind to consider this

He has fumbled the ball at every turn. If he really wants to finish his term he should just shut up from this point on. Apparently there are no further legal issues pending, and I don't see what the Senate thinks they can "investigate." So whatever Larry, do what you gotta do and then drop it.

I belive that the Constitution says that each House is the final arbiter of its own members. The Senate could expel him. But do you think a single Dimmycrap would vote for that? Heck no — it would deprive them of a great target.
