OK, Ill bite. Just what in hell is wrong with them checking your receipt and/or looking in your bag? On a practical level, nothing. You give consent when you walk in. Don't like it? Don't walk in.

As a matter of good business practice you should never incorporate into your business model a process by which your customers must prove they aren't stealing from you.

At that point, the stuff is mine and thus none of their business. Don’t pull a “guilty until proven innocent” 10 seconds after innocence has been clearly established (i.e.: at checkout upon receiving the receipt).
