Terri Schiavo's Family Continues Effort to Block Jack Kevorkian UF Speech
Life News ^ | 9/3/07 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 09/03/2007 12:31:29 PM PDT by wagglebee

Gainesville, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo is continuing its efforts to block a speech by Jack Kevorkian scheduled for the middle of next month. The speech would be the first for the former assisted suicide crusader following his release from prison for killing a disabled man and showing the death on national television.

Kevorkian would speak to students at the University of Florida on October 11 and receive $50,000 for the talk, as long as his parole officers approve the trip.

The family of Terri Schiavo has been leading an effort to stop the speech by gathering petitions from concerned citizens so Kevorkian doesn't get a platform in their home state.

They don't want the former pathologist telling students that people with disabilities should be killed, like their sister, rather than receiving appropriate medical treatment or rehabilitative care.

Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, told LifeNews.com, "We have collected thousands of petitions (and they are still coming in) to deliver to the Office of the President of the University of Florida."

"We're demanding the University rescind its offer to pay $50,000 for Kevorkian to address the students," he added.

"Despite the ongoing message of death spreading through our society and those, like Jack Kevorkian, who attempt to justify killing the most vulnerable among us, we are committed to fight against this death-obsessed culture and spread Terri's legacy of life, hope and love," Schindler explained.

He said there is still time for pro-life people and others worried about Kevorkian's pro-assisted suicide message to sign a petition asking the University of Florida to cancel the speech.

The petition can be found at the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation web site.

A new definition emerges of Foster care...

Thread by wagglebee.

Boyntown Beach, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Police in Florida are looking for a public school teacher who is accused of having sex with two of his students and using an abortion to cover up his actions. Santaluces High School drama teacher Andrew Foster, 27, allegedly started having sex with the students last year and got one of them pregnant.

One of the victims, who is 18, told authorities that after she got pregnant Foster took her to an abortion center for an abortion.

Good post. I’m not sure why he could not remember the details. That’s like saying you could not remember the OJ Simpson trial.

Terri was on Baynews9.com today, all day. Their ratings must be down if they need to dredge up Terri’s name to direct people to their web site. If Terri were not murdered, they’d be able to do stories all the time on her progress and wonderful times with her REAL family.

With PVS, beware when docs proclaim "there's no hope." Remember Terri said, "Where there's life, there's hope." Judge Greer stole her own words from her so he could kill her.

NEVER FORGET ALL THE TIMES THEY ATTEMPTED TO KILL TERRI AND THE DAY THEY MURDERED HER.

Today, locally, Thompson said he believed in the sanctity of life but he didn't say anything about being against euthanasia.

No, thank you. He's a Bushbot and IMO, Jeb's son George P. is whispering about Terri killing in his ear.

The locals are all corrupt. Just check the www.sptimes.com. There are so many officials resigning, committing suicide, getting caught in sex scandals, money scandals. PINELLAS COUNTY IS corrupt. If Fred Thompson wasn't being hand fed GARBAGE by the Pinellas Republican Party, he wouldn't be so brainwashed ALREADY. I will NOT vote for Fred Thompson. He's brainwashed and it only took him a few days in PINELLAS COUNTY for them to DRY CLEAN IT TOO.

Fred Thompson has NO OPINION ON MURDER. lol He was brainwashed while he was in Florida. We don’t need any more RINOS. Thompson is a RINO and proved it by not investigating that Terri was killed by corruption.

The media is STILL saying the GOP was damaged by INTERVENING? What a bunch of liars. When the GOP dropped Terri like kittens into a river, hoardes of republicans said they were through with the GOP cuz they didn’t protect Terri. LEAVE IT TO THE MEDIA TO GET IT BACKWARDS. They must be death cultists or they’d stop lying about why people left the GOP. It was when the intervention was HALTED and Terri was murdered that people went indy or quit donating to the RNC.

A Straw Poll—“More Important than Iowa”

to be conducted at Values Voter Presidential Debate
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, August 31, 2007. Delegates for the Values Voter Straw Poll have been selected by pro-family leaders such as Phyllis Schlafly, President of Eagle Forum, Don Wildmon Chairman of the American Family Association, Paul Weyrich, President of the Free Congress Foundation, Judge Roy Moore, Chairman of the Foundation for Moral Law, Rabbi Aryea Spero, of the Jewish Action Alliance, and Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, who fought for the right of Military Chaplains to pray in Jesus name.

“Unlike other straw polls where candidates have bussed in supporters or paid for their tickets, the Values Voter Straw poll conducted at this Presidential debate promises results consistent with the largest voting block in America—the Values Voter,” said Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel and member of the host committee. “This will be the most important straw poll yet.”

“I’m proud to be a part of this historic debate,” said Rick Scarborough, President of Vision America and host committee member, “hundreds of questions have been sent in by values voters who want answers to questions not asked in any other debate.”

Thanks for reminding me. I posted on #405 upthread on 9/11 and it needs more coverage. It is a stunning story. I wonder what the lady thinks of her husband's decision to pull the plug! Here is another take from that news:

.............................

This morning we told the story of Jill Finley, a thirty-two-year-old woman who suffered a heart attack and went into a coma, only to wake up after her husband took her off life support.  WATCH VIDEO.

I chatted with Jill and Ryan Finley after their segment, because it truly is an amazing story and hard to wrap your head around.  After watching his wife remain in a coma for fourteen days, Ryan Finley made the difficult decision to take his wife of four years off of life support.  Shockingly, Jill began responding and waking up once life support was removed.  Within six days she was back to - for all intents and purposes - 'normal'.

While it is amazing to hear Jill speak and go through her first memories (her first real memory after waking up was in rehab), and talk about the first thing she said (she asked to be taken to her favorite Mexican restaurant), I wanted to hear from Ryan, her husband, who was forced to make one of the hardest decisions and experienced the most miraculous outcome.

More Fred and Terri today...

Just what is a moderate? Sounds to me like someone who would see a middle ground between good and evil, sort of a compromise of good spiced with evil. Sounds like printing a newspaper all one color of gray rather than black print on a white sheet. Sounds like someone would serve you a gourmet dinner all blended first in a blender. Sounds like someone who uses the word, "but" with every opinion as Laura Ingraham likes to use, "but monkeys". Sounds like a compilation of all the great moderate leaders, military heroes, Saints who drove down the middle stripe of the road, all lists with the same integer, zero.

Well, here we have it. Moderates for Fred!

................................

Fred Thompson is bringing something new to the ’08 Presidential scramble, and it may just work.

The former Senator/actor is raising cool to an art form and, at a time, when voters are hearing too much from too many, his detachment has lifted him to the top of the Republican polls and may just keep him there.

Take, for example, his demurral to participating in the Values Voter crowd scene next Monday:

“Debates are important, but let’s don’t let the tail wag the dog here. Standing up there 10 in a row, you know, like a bunch of seals waiting for someone to throw you the next fish is not necessarily the best way to impart your information to the American people. I’m not above acting like a seal every once in a while and waiting for the next fish. I just don’t want to do it all the time.”

On the campaign trail, Thompson keeps sniffing at some of the fish and finding them too stale. Yesterday, when he has asked about the Terri Schiavo case, pushed by his fellow Tennessean Dr. Bill Frist, he declined to bite.

“I can’t pass judgment on it.” he said. “I know that good people were doing what they thought was best. That’s going back in history. I don’t remember the details.”

Staying out of the race until this month was a winning strategy. Now that he is in it, Thompson as a campaigner is doing the next best thing. Playing off the eagerness of Giuliani, Romney and McCain may be just the ticket to success.

Refreshing memory from North Dakota...

............................

Thompson has convenient short-term memory loss.

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson gave no opinion Thursday when asked about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep Terri Schiavo alive, saying he does not remember details of the right-to-die case that stirred national debate.

..."I can't pass judgment on it. I know that good people were doing what they thought was best," Thompson said. "That's going back in history. I don't remember the details of it."

While working as a lobbyist that same summer, Thompson helped brief John Roberts about the case for his Supreme Court confirmation hearings...............................................................

This is an expansion, and to me a more moderate Catholic view of the recent words of the Pope. Maybe I am just addled by my posts on moderates above.

I mean, Bp. Lynch?? Really? Ouch, my mind just boggled again.

The outcomes of individual circumstances, such as that of Terri Schindler Schiavo, "depend on disputes of facts" involved in the cases, he said. For example, he said, there were debates on whether or not Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman who died in March 2005 after a court ordered her feeding tube be removed, was in a persistent vegetative state.

The U.S. bishops refer people to the local Catholic Church when such issues arise, he said.

Now this is more like it...

.................................................

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 /Christian Newswire/ --  Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, welcomed the brief statement from the Vatican today clarifying that patients in a "persistent vegetative state," even when they are not expected to recover, are not to be deprived of food and water.

"Naturally, this brings to mind the case of Terri Schiavo," said Fr. Pavone, who was on Terri's short visitor’s list and was at her side in the final hours of her life. "Her autopsy said that she died of dehydration. She did not die from natural causes or from any illness. She was killed." Fr. Pavone added, "Let's not confuse Terri's case with the legitimate withdrawal of medical treatment. While there is such a thing as a worthless treatment, there is never such a thing as a worthless life."

Priests for Life, in cooperation with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, has proclaimed March 31 each year as "Terri's Day" and has prepared special prayers and suggested activities and educational resources for Churches and families.

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.

Fred and Terri again, and Michelle Malkin...

The link to Michelle seems to be a closed loop (See loop, closed...) I didn't spot the actual link, but it must be somewhere on hotair.com.

...........................

Conservatives were not impressed with Fred Thompson's "I don't remember the details of it" response to a question about the Terri Schiavo case. Michelle Malkin blogs: "This was a case on fundamental matters of ethics, end of life issues, and the definition of personhood and humanity...and Fred punts the question? ... Take a stand, Fred."

This actually comes from the New York Times! I wish I could post more than a small excerpt so hope all will go to the link. Some here and certainly a few visitors must have thought me off my rocker for emphasizing that Terri's Legacy has not moved on, like, uhhh MoveOn.org. Here it is, from NYT and not from MoveOn.

I also point out that it is the far left that wears Terri's Legacy like an albatross. Does it show?

............................

More than two years after Terri Schiavo died and more than 15 after she was (by most accounts) last known to be conscious, the issues raised by her case continue to make headlines.

The ethical and moral dilemmas surrounding the end of life can be some of the most difficult and heartrending that most people ever face, and Ms. Schiavo’s long coma and the struggle over who should decide what to do about it attracted huge attention and sent off political and social shock waves that still reverberate..............................

Still More Fallout From the Terri Schiavo Case
