We would need to provide physical, military support. The new Russian SU-30s have the range to interdict the British fleet and could overcome and overwhelm the Harriers on their current carriers.

In a few years when they have the new carriers and the JSFs, that would be a different matter.

I personally believe it is time for a joint UK and US carrier exercise in the carribean to shut this idiot up. One or two of their Invinsible class, and one Nimitz class and their escorts would be all that was needed.

You didn’t include the #1 item, the willingness to defeat and crush the entire Venezuelan military force, then obliterate the Chavez administration.

These days we are hesitant about overpowering foreign governments with “undue” force for fear that we will be seen as a monster who doesn’t know when to stop killing.

As long as we permit our State Department to discuss tactical operations winning is impossible. I am fed up with appeasments and agreements to end the combat.

I want the enemy to be begging us not to erradicate their people, not demanding compensation for damages to their national treasures.

I think it’s about time we got our money’s worth from those B-2s the Air Scouts have been playing with for so long.

Send a couple down their to take out their new birds on the ground — along with any other interesting hardware that seems to be laying around.

And when they squawk — make them prove it. We don’t need JDAMs for this. Good old fashioned iron bombs would be enough.

The Brits need to get themselves "real carriers" and they are trying to do so.

Without them, even ancient A-4 Skyhawks were able to overwhelm their air defenses.

Without “real carriers”, the British were limited to Harriers which are simply not acceptable in modern naval warfare. Without E-2 Hawkeyes guiding air superiority fighters to engage enemy aircraft 100 miles from the fleet, the British fleet was virtually a sitting duck to air attack. Without such air superiority fighters and their forward "eyes", even antiquated Skyhawks were able to fly over the British fleet and drop “dumb bombs” on the British fleet. ........ 29 posted on 11/21/2002 6:58:30 PM PST by Polybius

I’m just a bit worried about the ability of the UK navy...what with the latest display of their “spunk” facing the Iranian rubber dingies....
