FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20070919-07
September 19, 2007
Iraqi Forces, U.S. Special Forces kill Al Qaeda in Iraq terrorist, detain 18 others in northern Iraq
Multi-National Corps Iraq PAO
TAJI Iraqi Forces, with U.S. Special Forces as advisers, killed one al Qaeda in Iraq terrorist and detained 18 others during three separate operations Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 in northern Iraq.
During an operation Sept. 18, Soldiers from the 2nd Iraqi Army Division were called in to support other Iraqi forces that began receiving enemy fire in Sharqat, near Mosul. After suppressing the enemy, the forces conducted an operation on intelligence that several high-ranking AQI terrorists were meeting in the area. One suspected terrorist, who is believed to be responsible for facilitating AQI movement, was detained. A 9mm sub-machine gun, a handgun and AK-47 ammunition were seized.
In a separate raid Sept. 18, Iraqi Security Forces in Bulayj detained three individuals while conducting a presence patrol through multiple villages reported to be AQI safe havens. Two of the detainees are alleged AQI facilitators in the area.
During an earlier operation, Iraqi Army forces killed one extremist and detained 14 others after receiving enemy fire during a combat patrol to recover a weapons cache Sept. 17 in the village of Hugna, near Kirkuk.
Upon entry into the village, the patrol came under direct small arms fire. The forces immediately returned well-aimed and proportionate fire, killing Baha Turki Abd Shabib, a known AQI assassin operating in Hawijah, Bayji and Mosul. He is linked to the deaths of more than 60 innocent Iraqis, including the beheading of an Iraqi Army Soldier, and is responsible for manufacturing improvised explosive devices to be used in future terrorist attacks.
After the fire-fight, the forces began clearing targeted structures within the village. Iraqi forces pursued multiple fleeing individuals into a nearby mosque and detained 14 suspected terrorists.
No Iraqi or U.S. Special Forces were injured during these missions.

Iraqi Security Forces, U.S. Special Operations Forces detain seven terrorists
Multi-National Corps Iraq PAO
BALAD Iraqi Army Scouts conducted a series of intelligence-driven helicopter-assault raids Sept. 18, resulting in the destruction of an insurgent weapons cache southwest of Taji.
During the raids, an insurgent weapons cache was discovered with more than 100 containers of nitric acid, eight anti-aircraft weapons, and improvised explosive device materials. The cache was destroyed in place using close air support. Three individuals, including a purported al Qaeda in Iraq sniper team spotter, were detained.
During a concurrent operation, members of the Emergency Response Unit detained an al Qaeda in Iraq Emir and two cell members Sept. 18 in the al Adhamiyah area of Baghdad.
The Emir and his cell members are suspected of conducting IED and indirect fire attacks against local citizens and Coalition Forces. The cell also kidnaps and murders Iraqi forces and Sunni citizens who stand against their criminal activities.
The extremists are linked to a May 3, 2007 IED attack that killed several civilians, as well as several attacks in March 2007 against an Iraqi National Guard facility and Coalition forces in the al Kadhamiyah area.
In October 2006, they were linked to an attack that killed several Iraqi National Guardsmen and found to be responsible for detonating an IED against a U.S. military convoy. In July 2005, they were suspected of murdering a female college student attending the IBN al Haythm College.
In a separate raid, Iraqi Army Reconnaissance Soldiers detained a suspected extremist Sept. 18 in the Taji area. The suspected extremist leads a company who is responsible for conducting multiple attacks using IEDs and explosively formed penetrators along main supply routes including an August 22, 2007 attack using an EFP against Iraqi and Coalition Forces.
U.S. Special Operations Forces were advisers during these operations and there were no Iraqi or U.S. Forces injured.

Hindu Activists in India Attack Pastor and Family; Burn Down Church
By James Varghese
Special to ASSIST News Service
LUCKNOW, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA (ANS) — A pastor and his family were attacked by 150 Hindu activists as they were traveling to their church in Bhadwadi village, according to the news portal (www.christianpost.com).
After accusing Pastor Virendra Singh, 50, of converting people to Christianity and severely injuring him, the attackers believed to be affiliated with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (World Hindu Council) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (National Volunteers Organization) burnt down their church, which had more than 500 believers inside.
The 500-600, who were present in the church, ran out panicked, crying with fear. They somehow managed to help the sick believers escape from the church, reported the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), a human rights advocacy group based in Bangalore.
Religious books, Bibles, Christian literatures, musical instruments, and other items, however, were completely destroyed.
Singh who had been traveling Sunday with wife Bhavana Singh, 45, and daughter Rushali Singh, 14 told GCIC that he was thankful to God for saving them from the attack, which left them with just few injuries and scars.
After Sundays attack, the pastor will for the second time be registering a case against the activists. On Sept. 7, Singh had requested police protection after receiving death threatens from the same activists.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520
This information is current as of today, Wed Sep 19 2007 03:31:29 GMT-0700.
SYRIA
September 18, 2007
This Travel Warning alerts U.S. citizens to the ongoing safety and security concerns in Syria . Travelers are advised to thoroughly consider the risks before travel to Syria and to take adequate precautions to ensure their safety if traveling to Syria . This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on November 13, 2006.
On September 12, 2006, the U.S. Embassy in Damascus was attacked by assailants using improvised explosives, gunfire, and two vehicles laden with explosives. This attack underscores the danger posed by the continued presence of terrorist groups in Syria . The Embassy is working with the Syrian authorities to address these threats and the security issues raised by the attack on the Embassy. While the authorities have taken measures since then to crack down on local extremists, self-contained groups with no links to external terrorist organizations will remain inherently difficult to detect and disrupt.
U.S. citizens who remain in or travel to Syria are encouraged to register at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, and to obtain updated information on travel and security in Syria . Americans in Syria should exercise caution and take prudent measures to maintain their security. These measures include being aware of their surroundings, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, keeping a low profile, varying times and routes for all required travel, and ensuring travel documents are current.
U.S. consular personnel remain available to provide emergency information and services to American citizens. The U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria , is located at 2, Al-Mansour St. , Abu Roumaneh. The Embassy telephone number is (963) (11) 333-1342, fax (963) (11) 331-9678, e-mail: acsdamascus@state.gov . American citizens may register with the Embassy online by visiting https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs . Additional information may be found on the Embassy website at http://usembassy.state.gov/damascus .
Updated information on travel and security in Syria may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444. Additional details can be found in the Department of State’s Consular Information Sheet for Syria, the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, and the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement which are available on the Department’s Internet website at http://travel.state.gov .

Warden Message: Jordan Shootout
10 Apr 2007
Worldwide Caution Public Announcement
U.S. Embassy Amman issued the following Warden Message on September 18:
The Embassy recently received a report of a violent sexual assault against an American citizen in a taxi in west Amman. During afternoon hours, the victim got into a taxi cab in a commercial area of west Amman. The taxi driver then drove the victim to an isolated location where he assaulted her. We are sharing this information with the American community in order to improve security awareness.
Generally speaking, crime in Amman is considered to be low and violent crimes against Americans are extremely rare. However, the Embassy does receive occasional reports of sexual harassment, indecent exposure, and unwanted touching of western women in Jordan. Marked yellow cabs are generally considered to be safe, but some of these incidents, as in this case, have involved taxis. Please check the Embassy website for a list of radio taxis that vet their drivers.
Adhering to the following important tips will reduce your chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime:
Trust your instincts; if the situation doesnt seem right, get out of the situation if possible.
Stay alert to your surroundings; walk with confidence and purpose
Try not to travel alone, especially at night or in areas that are unfamiliar to you.
Consume alcohol responsibly.
Be assertive dont let anyone violate your personal space.
Always carry a cell phone, and call the Jordanian police (emergency numbers 191 and 192 in Amman) in the event of emergency.
Before you enter a taxi make a note of the license plate; enter the number in your phone.
Females should never sit in the front seat of a taxi; sit behind the driver
Understand cultural differences some individuals may perceive casual conversations as flirting.
Be wary of persons making compliments or engaging in inappropriate discussion
Avoid having conversations with taxi cab drivers
Dress conservatively, especially outside of west Amman and during Ramadan
Dont be embarrassed to make a scene Do what is best for you!
If someone attempts to assault you, try to escape, fight, and make a scene to draw the attention of passersby to the incident
If an attacker tries to move you to another area do whatever it takes to prevent it
The U.S. Embassy in Amman is located on Al-Umayyaween Street, Abdoun, P.O. Box 354. The telephone number is [962] (6) 590-6000 and the fax number is [962] (6) 592-4102. The after-hours emergency telephone number is [962] (6) 590-6000.
For the latest security information, Americans should regularly monitor the Departments web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found.
Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
Americans living or traveling in Jordan are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Amman through the State Departments travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security within Jordan.

Thanks, Hunter.
Ahmadinejad is a total lunatic.
And he’ll be in the US in a few days.
What a circus that’ll be.
Yeah, but off topic a bit i’d really like to see Bush take the debate option. Considering Bush is now neighbors with Iran, i think they have quite a bit to clarify with one another.
But it’s not a debate i’d want to be a referee of, but in any case tying all of this in, didn’t AQ form cuz of palestine?
IMO: I hear wardrums beating in the ground from every angle. Chess pieces being played, Hamas calling this a declaration of war (israel is now able to cut their power/water)
The next few days will be interesting.
but off topic my sister had a good idea, put all these world leaders on E and lock them in a room for 24 hours, we’d have problems solved. (plus many hugs and massages lol) i want to use rodney kings line here but it’s not applicable, too much heat.
later.

Yaseen Chowdhury, 17, of Woodside, wrote the fliers himself and put them in the mailboxes at the Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights, sources said. (snip)
The student’s religion was not immediately known. ((DOH!))
