Maybe they resent being forced to learn a second language in order to function in their own country. I do.
I haven’t forgotten the troubles in the schools last winter. In a way it seems like our children face the brunt of the illegal invasion.
How about having to know Spanish to get a particular job. That happened to me. I met all of the requirements except the last one posted in the want ad. “Must speak Spanish”. It was a mftg. lead postition, for an American company.
There are ways to do that which don’t require making asses of themselves.
“Entiendas” That was the first mexican word I learned. I was required by my teacher in New Mexico to help one of my classmates with our classwork. It was the FOURTH grade!!! That was well over 20 years ago. Was I resentful then, hell yes I was. I was trying to learn myself for goodness sake. I disagree with the chanting, but for kids to have real concerns in not the least bit surprising for me to hear. Oh, well...I see not much has changed.
The student that chanted “White Power” obviously shouldn’t have done that. He should have expressed his opinion in a better, more mature way. He is, however, entitled to his opinion and doesn’t have to be all for immigration. He should, from now on, express his views at the appropriate times. It is possible that the reason for this is that us Americans have to learn Spanish in order to function in this country. He is probably wondering why we have to when the Spanish-speaking people don’t have to learn to speak English. Since that is the main language of the U.S.
