Fred Thompson, the actor and former Tennessee senator whose flirtation with a presidential bid has frustrated some supporters, will file papers to officially enter the race next Thursday, his campaign manager told key backers this afternoon.

"Fred is definitely is going to make the race," campaign manager Bill Lacy told members of the Thompson campaign's national finance team in a conference call. "We are in this race to win." Lacy said Thompson will also announce his campaign on a webcast next Thursday. After that he is expected to visit Iowa Sept. 7, New Hampshire on Sept. 8 and 9, and South Carolina after that. There will also be events Sept. 13-15 in Florida and Tennessee, Lacy said.

“It mostly irritated Romney backers who watched Fred blow by Mitt without officially entering the race.”

Blow by Mitt AND catch Trudy in some polls.

I’m about to put my too big house in JC on the market in September. Maybe I’ll live out of my little Winnie Aspect Motorhome for a while.

“Damn this is gong to be more fun than a gaggle of Ron Paul supporters”

Exactly how many Ron Paul supporters does it take to make “a gaggle?”

Hope his people have done a thorough job of vetting contributors so far....because the rats sure will.

I think some soon-to-be-exiting-repub candidate should commit similar acts of, ah, fundraising as Hillary has. Just to see if it will gain some legs...

Oh, it began a while back, at least when he fired his 38 second shot at Michael Moore, or maybe even earlier when he was debating the senior editor of NRO in an exchange of blog posts.

From then on, all of Thompson’s actions—waiting until after Labor Day to announce, thereby following old custom, rather than the modern fashion of the campaign beginning the moment the last election is tallied; keeping his ability to get extensive commentary on news issues posted on ABC’s website as long as he decently could; getting solo forums rather than joining the absurdly long series of debates in which candidates without a ghost of a chance of begin nominated get equal billing (sorry Brownbackers, Hunterites, and Tancredistas, that means your candidates, oh and the libertarians backing Ron Paul, too—even if he manages to poll higher)—have all been calculated to boost his (deserved) image of being his own man, his perceived stature, and his poll numbers.

3. He honestly believes he can out debate anyone running.

And he's right.

But doing this for a freaking year and a half is just too much.

I agree.

I was hoping he would announce next year.

I really enjoyed the angst of the the Rinos and Dims.

But alas.....my enjoyment was short lived.

>>Reason for Newt:

I lost my enthusiasm for Newt when I watched a video of him in Mexico, speaking fluent spanish, apologizing to the Mexican people for offending them during a comment he made on illegal immigration.

Done........

It's been a very interesting race while FDT wasn't in the race. I'm not sure if his various detractors have any bad stuff left to say about him, but I am sure they'll try to come up with something.

Let's see...they beat up on his wife's age, career and how she dresses, his age, appearance and the shoes he wore to the Iowa state fair, but mostly, they are really ticked off that he wouldn't announce when they wanted him to.

Hitlary, Edwards and Oh-bama all announced a couple of years before the election. What, is FDT better than they are??? Well...yeah! He is.

Neither Warner nor Thompson voted against impeachment — the House impeaches, and the Senate convicts or acquits. Thompson voted guilty on the obstruction charge — i.e., he voted to convict Clinton and remove him from office.

Other than he is prolife and supports traditional values I see nothing in his public life that is either unique or outstanding.

He was (not sure if he still is) a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. A staunch pro-globalist organization.
