Actually it's the opposite, because the guys coming in can't read minds - the spotters are supposed to clear cars before they leave the pit box - the announcers even mentioned nobody told Edwards that JPM was coming up. The audio from Edwards' people made it pretty clear as well that they weren't paying attention and cleared Edwards to leave (like I said, it wasn't Edwards fault, he did exactly what he was told to do, and he can't see out that way) before deciding "oh yeah, other people are pitting".
