I’ve never been a huge Savage fan, but they’re good guns. I always liked the old National Match Springfield from the ‘30s I used to have, and my bedded and seated Winchester M70 for long-range .30-06 bolt actions. My dad was a collector, and I got to shoot a whole lot of military rifles from M1895 Winchester Russians, Spanish Mausers and Krags right on through the semi-autos from WWII - M1s, Johnsons, Gewehr41 and 43. For sheer pleasure in shooting, I think I liked the old Mauser K98a in 7.92 mm best.
