That is somewhat misleading, I own many more than 1 firearm per my family member. I have heard that only around 50% if Americans own firearms.

U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms Hey, pretty impressive. Just think, there are only a very few of those that jump up, kill and rob people. If the 270 mil were cut in half, the per cent of crime guns would double.

Id love to see a breakdown of how many guns are owned most frequently.Kind of like Lay's potato chips - "You can't own just one.".

For the most widely owned firearm in the USA, I’d expect it to be the Remington 850 pump shotgun in 12 gage. After that, the Ruger 10/22 rifle in .22 caliber. This would be in civilian ownership, not police or military.

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said. Come on, Folks...you are not TRYING!
Get that Desert Eagle you always wanted! Get that .44 Mag Big Snake! Get another 1911A1!!
You know you need it!
Let's try to make it 95% next year, and really make Roto-Rooters squeal like a pig!!!!

Great statistic. I am damn proud that we are an armed people. We should own more guns! The Founding Fathers were smart - a tyrant (Hitlery?) would have a hard time subjugating a well armed populace.
Now if we could just seal the borders and deport all Muslims...
To: RicocheT
I agree about the 10/22, but I’ll bet that Glocks outnumber 870’s. That’s a shame too, as I consider the 870 to be the 57 Chevy of shotguns.

I think I'm down to a dozen or so (not counting antique percussion pistols), but I can
share in time of need... (and
do have some lead, the bullet molds and plenty of FFG if worst comes to worst - wonder if that Model 1861 Army will still take a full charge....)
It's encouraging that we have so many guns, but remember, quality counts, too. We should imitate the Swiss and issue every citizen a rifle - preferably an assault rifle like the M-14 or FN in 7.62 NATO (.308 Winchester), but semi-autos (M-1, Johnson) or solid bolt actions in .30-06 (since there's so much ammo available) will do in a pinch.
There should be no citizen household in America unarmed!

"...a tyrant (Hitlery?) would have a hard time subjugating a well armed populace."Our government just allows an unarmed invasion from the south, periodically prosecutes those who own guns and use them in defense of property or self, confiscates my 2 inch pocket knife in the airport, and legalizes the killing of 3 times the number of undesirable people (abortion) than Hitler did.
I own 4 myself, but despite our well armed selves, we are losing our freedoms and national identity at an alarming pace.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Rem 1100/1187 or another popular semi auto shotgun was #2 now.
In the pumps the Mossberg 500 may well be selling as many as the 870 now.
