Craig must resign from the Senate immediately.
Then Governor Otter should appoint Lt. Gov. Jim Risch to finish Craigs term.
That will end the story and the humiliation to Craig and minimize the damage to the GOP. It will also give Risch a huge advantage going into the election and take the issue of Craigs personal conduct off the table for the Democrats.
If Craig doesnt step down, then that proves he doesnt care what serious harm his behavior brings to the Republican party, and therefore it is up to the GOP to protect themselves and force him out without delay.

Agree that it is certainly best for the GOP if he goes quickly so the Gov. can replace him with a strong candidate. Sad that he has done this.

His best chance to stay in the Senate is announce he is changing parties, denounce the Republicans for their intolerant attitude toward gays and have the enemedia run interference for him.
This will guarantee he stays until January 2009.

I agree with both of you. This is what should happen, and this is what may likely happen.

Yes, I’d say he has to leave.
