I don’t get much chance to listen to Glenn Beck, but he’s been talking for at least a year about the possibility of Iran blocking the Straits.

Good way to get the littorials around Hormuz nice and glassy. Imagine the value of that glass some 250,000 years from now.

We unblock it with the most massive aerial bombardment the world has ever witnessed.

Filling the straits with sunken ships would not exactly ease the blockage.

I was talking about bombing Iran. Into oblivion if necessary.

Hillary would bomb some empty tents like her hubby did, Obama Mohammed would ask for negotiations, but Duncan Hunter would blow them away.

Filling the straits with sunken ships would not exactly ease the blockage.

But if the strait is made to be 20 miles wider and 3 miles deeper than it is now, that will take care of the blockage.

Insurers add a "war premium" for ships heading to most Persian Gulf ports, and some analysts fear this premium will increase if Iran tries to block the Strait.

That's the real key here. It actually is quite difficult to physically block that strait, the more so for that action being the first part of a larger military engagement. It is easiest to threaten to, less easy but still not difficult to plant mines that threaten the ships, still less easy but feasible to combine this with an antiship missile threat from torpedo boats, at-sea platforms, or from the coastline itself either land- or air-based.

The threat alone can skyrocket the insurance premiums. Reagan answered that by placing ships under the U.S. flag and daring the Iranians to shoot at them. We know who blinked.

Now, an Iran armed with nuclear missiles - that's quite another threat. We're quite probably a few years away from its actuality but military planners have to take that very seriously indeed.

However, at some point the Iranians will be cutting their own throats too. They need the oil export as much or more than the oil customers do. So I see the threat as much more likely, and effective, than the reality. All IMHO and subject to debate, of course.

Iran blosks the straight of Hormuz?

The US would just sit and watch 6 months of Negotiations through the UNited Nations before organizing another multinational coalition to unblock the Straight of Hormuz, and while at it, destroy Irans nuclear capabilities, and then the whole coalition would turn to Iraq and clean the country of Islamic Fascist pestilance.

I WOULD LOVE FOR IRAN TO BLOCK THE STRAIGHT OF HORMUZ

Go ahead you moonbat, jewish-genocidal, Iranian 12ther fother muckers!

Do it NOW!

But again, that doesn’t exactly address the issue of the Straits being blocked.
