Yes I’ve read The Real Lincoln and I value revisionist historian DiLorenza’s contribution to Lincoln scholarship. I’ve also read Forced Into Glory: The White Dreams of Abraham Lincoln by black historian Lerone Bennett Junior and I’ve read several of the standard biographies of Lincoln.
Have you read the Causes of Secssion of the seceding states?
They state quite unequivocably why they were leaving the Union. The war fought between 1861 and 1864 determined who was right and who was wrong, and as it is in all wars “to the victors went the spoils.”
With hindsight being 20/20, it was a strategic mistake to fire on Fort Sumter.

now may i humbly suggest that you go read #595??? (i'm too lazy to retype it.= chuckle.)
the so-called "declarations of secession" were "discovered" by the RADICAL REVISIONISTS out of the most extreme, south-HATING,LEFTIST/socialist/FASCIST northeastern & "left coast" schools in the 1970s.
previous to the "rise of the revisionists", traditional scholars had "known about" but DISMISSED "the declarations" as INCONSEQUENTIAL to an understanding of the causes of the WBTS.
the truth is that these "causes" tell scholars NOTHING which has not always been a portion of the "marginal writings of a few slavers".
fwiw, when i was doing my second year of grad school, i spent a LOT of time reading the various "marginal documents", trying DESPERATELY to find something of VALUE in them to do a monograph on. (it's called "publish or perish", in academia. i was a "lecturer in residence" at a small church-related college at the time.) i came to the SAD conclusion that i had found NOTHING that had not already been "beaten to death" by another writer & had totally "wasted my time"!

REVISIONIST historiography is a LEFTIST/Marxist/FASCIST HERESY of traditional scholarship.
whatever else we southerners are it is neither LEFTIST nor REVISIONIST.
Tom Di Lorenzo, whom i KNOW personally, is a TRADITIONAL historian.
